Laser Adaptive Optics For Surveillance Purposes

Post by Kanastrous »

Are adaptive optics of the variety employed by the YAL-1 useful for improving the clarity of telephoto images?

What kind of AO does the YAL-1 use in the first place? Do you really need sub-arcsecond resolution for satellites that can take hundreds of pictures, and are available for a certain site every 90 minutes or so? As for the aircraft, again, how much resolution do you need, and how much extra weight are you willing to carry?
