Rush Limbaugh copies Oprah Winfrey

Link from CNN wrote:Limbaugh Buys Kerrville Couple SUV
Belinda Davis, David Davis Thought Rush Limbaugh Was Joking

POSTED: 8:51 am CST November 13, 2008
UPDATED: 9:28 am CST November 13, 2008

KERRVILLE, Texas -- A Kerrville couple got an early Christmas gift recently from nationally syndicated conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh.

Belinda Davis phoned into Limbaugh's show to express her concern over celebrities' influence into president-elect Barack Obama's campaign.

During their conversation, Limbaugh must have sensed a concern in Davis' voice.

Davis and her husband, David, are having a tough time in their jewelry business.

"Not a lot of people are buying jewelry nowadays," David Davis said.

To make matters worse, the transmission went out in their Dodge Durango and they didn't know when they would be able to fix it.

When Limbaugh promised to send Belinda an over-the-counter cold product, a copy of his book and buy her whatever vehicle she wanted, she thought the talk show host was joking.

But he wasn't.

The couple is now driving a fully-loaded Chevrolet Tahoe valued at $58,000.

"I was just surprised," Belinda Davis said.

"He's my best friend," David Davis said while laughing. "I can't believe it. Nobody has ever given us anything this great. It's a dream come true."
So let me get this straight: Rush Limbaugh sympathizes with a supporter who thinks that celebrities had too much influence over the election, so he pulls an Oprah Winfrey and magnaminously gives this caller a new SUV.

Hey Rush, pop quiz: are you a celebrity? Do you think you have too much influence over elections?

I am really tired of right-wing media celebrities complaining about "the media" and "celebrities". What the fuck do they think they are?

He's not worried that they're going to use it to go buy drugs or alcohol or something? Isn't that the standard reason against handouts to strangers?

Wow, it's like the gift that keeps on giving... except that by "giving" its a behemoth smog blasting gas guzzler that costs 80 dollars a pop to fill. Dang, thanks, Rush.

Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."

In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!

The Democrats own smaller cars so it is like owning your own personal Mammoth tank! Plus, gas isn't a problem if you have the wall of ignorance on your side.

(emphasis mine)

So these people chose a horrific gas guzzler? Wouldn't being low on money and on a limited income be enough incentive to choose an economical car?

They live in Kerrville which is a large town an hour or so outside a major city (San Antonio) and is largely rural outside the town center. From what I've seen passing through at any rate.

Anyhow, the point is that they live in an area where having a "offroad" vehicle or truck is seen as a necessity. Whether it really is or not. And that's on top of being Republitard fans of that corpulent pill popper. Plus they own a business so, even though it's a jewelry business, they may feel it necessary to have a vehicle capable of hauling stock or jewelry making equipment and/or people. And it's not like they were in a highly fuel efficient vehicle to begin with. All they really did is trade a Dodge SUV for a Chevy one.

For the sake of clarity, let me point out that I am in no way defending this horseshit, I'm only trying to give some insight as to their mind set.

Then a minivan would be far more practical.

Well, I'm sure he didn't have too much influence over this year's. 8)

We all know practicality isn't the rubric these idiots make their financial decisions by. Or in this case, wish-list.

What is hilarious are the stated reasons FOR getting the latest and greatest Suburban AFV.

1) ride-height
2) status symbol / it's new / although usually couched more simply "it's nice"
3) off-road capability, or horsepower, when contrasted with a station wagon. Ha, yeah.
I'm with Miller High Life on this one. "Leather seats; automatic transmission; nowadays you'll hear people call this a truck. Well a man knows a station wagon when he sees one. This car will only see off road action if the driver backs over a flower bed."

I know I'm missing a golden excuse or two, but they're just not coming right now. By far though people just can't part with their overpowered, high-riding status symbol, besides, gas is going down!
