For the few that may not know, Majel Barrett provided the voice of the Enterprise's computer in every series post-TOS, as well as playing the recurring roles of Nurse Chapel in TOS and Lwaxana Troi in TNG and DS9. Given how awful this year has been for celebrity deaths I feel numbed, but still tough to hear this and the franchise has lost an important corner stone. Her distinctive computer voice had a cameo in Family Guy.

Man, this totally bums me out. I used to have a huge crush on Nurse Chapel when I was a kid. Her role as Lwaxana was one of my favorite recurring roles in the new series.
