Bristol Palin's future mother-in-law arresed on drug charges
Bristol Palin's future in-law arrested
By ANDY BARR | 12/19/08 11:56 AM EST

Sherry L. Johnston, the mother of Bristol Palin’s fiancé, was arrested Thursday night on drug charges.

Johnston was arrested at her Wasilla home and charged with six felony drug counts. Alaska state troopers then searched the Johnston home for further evidence of narcotics. She was charged with second-degree misconduct for allegedly manufacturing narcotics and a fourth-degree misconduct related to possession.

She has been released from the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility on a $2,000 bond.

Johnston is the mother of Levi Johnston, who was vaulted into the national spotlight in September when it was announced that he is the father of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s teenage daughter Bristol’s child. The baby is due on Saturday, and the two are set to wed this summer.

Via a spokesman, the Alaska governor issued this statement to the Anchorage Daily News: “This is not a state government matter. Therefore the governor's communications staff will not be providing comment or scheduling interview opportunities.”

I'm going to go out on a limb and say "Meth Lab".

Considering that the election was lost, I'm surprised that they're still forcing this guy down the aisle.

But as to this article, I'm amused to see that they've just declined to comment as opposed to trying to spin it.

They'd wind up losing face in front of the neighbors if they didn't march him down the aisle, and the media would have a field day. It's not like they have a whole lot of choice about it now.

With all due respect, is their any evidence that anyone is "forcing this guy down the aisle", besides "Palin sucks"?

Looks like Bristol's future husband is getting out of the house while the gittin's good. Oh yeah, and he's doing the right thing for his family-to-be, a concept that may have escaped the MSM.

Felony counts for drugs? Hell, marijuana's legal for personal use in Alaska. Dumb.

I do believe he had posted an online profile in which he said he didn't want to get married any time soon. That's not proof positive, since dumb teenagers change their minds all the time, but if we're talking about normal teenage behavior, not many teenage fathers marry the girls they knock up.

He and his fiancé are teenagers. Odds are they will divorce after a brief but unhappy marriage. If this were a hundred years ago I'd agree with you, but in today's society with the modern idea of marriage, wedding the mother isn't necessarily the best thing for the child. Giving up the child to adoption would probably be best (a pretty white baby shouldn't have to wait to long, and I'm sure they could go through an agency and find some good parents before the babe is even born). If the poor idiot girl insists on keeping the child, then the boy should be forced to provide for it as best he can, but getting married right out of highschool (are they even finished with school yet?) isn't a prescription for a healthy, happy family.

He might be going into it willingly, sure. But let's be realistic here. With the huge media circus surrounding her daughter's pregnancy, and given their extremely religious upbringing, it'd be naive to assume that there was no pressure whatsoever put on him to go through with it.

It would be awkward for any future Palin presidential runs if Bristol remained unwed.

I wonder if they'll pressure him to go off into Iraq or something?
Turns out that a five way cross over between It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, the Ali G Show, Fargo, Idiocracy and Veep is a lot less funny when you're actually living in it.

I doubt they would. It wouldn't be good publicity if he died during his tour and it was discovered that he was pressured to join by the Palin's to get him out of the way.

The mother was busted for having OxyContin (the same thing Rush Limbaugh got into some trouble with):
Palin soap opera: Drug in Levi's mom's case is oxycontin

By Zaz Hollander, Anchorage Daily News

Sat Dec 20, 11:51 am ET

WASILLA, Alaska - Wasilla resident Sherry L. Johnston , mother of Bristol Palin's boyfriend, faces a Jan. 6 court date for an oxycontin-related arrest at her home by Alaska State Troopers .

Little additional information was available Friday on the case as authorities remained unusually tight-lipped about details. But Palmer court records listed Johnston's scheduled court date and a troopers spokeswoman said in a release late Friday afternoon that the charges "are in relation to the drug oxycontin."

Johnston is the mother of Levi Johnston , who Gov. Sarah Palin said was the father of Bristol Palin's unborn child. Levi Johnston joined the Palins at the Republican National Convention when Palin was running for vice president. It was during the convention that the governor and her husband, Todd, announced Bristol's pregnancy.

Sherry Johnston was arrested around noon Thursday by troopers serving a search warrant in an undercover drug investigation. A standard press release issued by troopers said Johnston was arrested on six felony counts: second-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance - generally manufacturing or delivering drugs - as well as fourth-degree misconduct involving controlled substances, or possession.

She was released on bail Thursday afternoon, just a few hours later.

Johnston has not responded to phone messages or requests for comment left at the family home. Nobody answered the door there Friday.

Troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters wouldn't say Friday if there were other potential defendants.

Normally, troopers file charging documents in court to back up arrests. Clerks at the Palmer courthouse said they hadn't seen any filings, and none has to be filed until the hearing.

The Palmer District Attorney's office prosecutes drug cases. Palmer District Attorney Roman Kalytiak said he was aware of the arrest, but also had not seen any reports or charging documents.

Kalytiak said the standard protocol for drug arrests is that law enforcement officials observe one drug buy, then get a warrant that permits them to record conversations and document more buys.

"I'd imagine standard protocol was followed," the district attorney said.

A spokesman for Gov. Palin on Thursday said the arrest was "not a state government matter" and so no comment or interviews on the topic would be forthcoming.
And if you are wondering what OxyContin is, well, straight from the US DEA's site:
OxyContin® is a prescription painkiller used for moderate to high pain relief associated with injuries, bursitis, dislocations, fractures, neuralgia, arthritis, lower back pain, and pain associated with cancer. OxyContin® contains oxycodone, the medication's active ingredient, in a timed-release tablet. Oxycodone products have been illicitly abused for the past 30 years.

Oxycodone is a Schedule II narcotic analgesic and is widely used in clinical medicine. It is marketed either alone as controlled release (OxyContin®) and immediate release formulations (OxyIR®, OxyFast®), or in combination with other nonnarcotic analgesics such as aspirin (Percodan®) or acetaminophen (Percocet®). The introduction in 1996 of OxyContin®, commonly known on the street as OC, OX, Oxy, Oxycotton, Hillbilly heroin, and kicker, led to a marked escalation of its abuse as reported by drug abuse treatment centers, law enforcement personnel, and health care professionals. Although the diversion and abuse of OxyContin® appeared initially in the eastern US, it has now spread to the western US including Alaska and Hawaii. Oxycodone-related adverse health effects increased markedly in recent years. In 2004, Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved for marketing generic forms of controlled release oxycodone products.
