What's the most expensive game you ever had?

Post by Shrykull »

Does anyone here remember in the late 80's and early 90's just how expensive nintendo and other console games used to be?

The most expensive game I ever had was called Romance of the Three Kingdoms that was bought for my birthday in 92. The second was Super Mario Brothers 3 (also bought for me) for $70. Remember the Neo-Geo system, that cost $600 dollars, but came with 2 games? I guess that went away quick because of the cost. But it looks like they may raise game prices to $60 dollars again.

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask was 3199Bfr when it was released, so... $110? Most Nintendo carts in those days were in the $60 ballpark, but the >256k ones were ridiculously expensive.

I've personally never paid more than $50, in the past I know i'd recieved gifts that were $60, but right when I got to that age where I was expected to start buying that stuff with my own money it had become far easier to find used games for sale.

I think I paid $90 for RA3. :S

Games are expensive in Australia, although not as expensive in US dollars as 6 months ago.

Steel Beasts Pro Personal Edition @ $125USD + shipping.

I think back in 1990? 1991? My Parents bought me Sword Of Vermillion for my Genesis - I priced that at something like 90 bucks. ridiculous, even by today's standards.

I nearly bought Steel Battalion with ultra mega controls. But then I sobered up. I think the most I ever played was 84.99$ for Time Crisis 3 on the Playstation 2 with packaged Light-gun. Sue me I'm a sucker for light gun games.

I don't think I've personally ever paid anything more than the £50 that was standard for earlier 360 games, but I remember the SNES version of Street Fighter II was horribly overpriced on its release over here in 1992, and my parents ended up having to fork out a then-massive £60 or so for me to have it on Christmas.

Probably $170 plus tax for Rock Band. If I could actually FIND a copy, I would have bought Steel Battalion already.

I'm not sure how much my Nintendo 64 with Wave Racer 64 and Super Mario 64 cost in the UK back when I bought it...

The (very few, as in 2) Gamecube/Wii games I bought here in Israel cost 400 skekels, well over a 100 US dollars at the exchange rates of the time.

I dunno, if we exclude cost to actually play the game (like the game time cost for WoW), most games I've bought have been 50€ max but if we including monthly costs WoW is the most expensive bar none due to the game time costs 15€ per month or so (about 30€ for 60 days)

Probably the original Red Alert which was 90$ when it was released in Canada, more recently it would be Fallout 3: Collectors Edition which was 74$.

You guys need to convert it to 2008 dollars so you can realize how much you actually spent.

I got a PS3 for MGS4 and that's still the only game I own for that system. Almost worth it... or so I'll keep telling myself at least. ;)

Age of Empires 3 was around 70 Canadian I think. The few other games I personally bought were probably all less, though I don't really remember.

When I bought Twilight Princess I also bought Guild Wars: Nightfall, so two $50 games, add up to $100 plus tax. Does that even count?

Most I ever spent was around $70 for the DVD release of HL2 with T-shirt and developers guide.

No. Only the highest one counts or else I could just tally up the cost of 100+ games I've collected and say I've paid over $3000 for them.

Not the same thing. I bought those two at the same time. Neither are the case with the OP so there's no point in continuing this.

Rock Band 2 for $190 Canadian. Other than that, choose any of my N64 games. I remember those costing around $84 plus tax back in 98.

I'm pretty sure both Super Mario World and Star Fox cost north of US$70 when my mom got them for us (we were little). But most expensive single game? Donkey Kong Country. If I recall correctly, it was something like $80-85 for that game alone.
