Since George Lucas owns the rights.....

What if Lucas re-issued Ran & the Rest of the Akira Kurasawa films for DVD, with simular treatment to Starwars (Including CGI detailed FX for the big battle scenes)

I'd be forced to shoot him in the face, twice.
In a Kurosawa fan to my bones, there is NOTHING that GL can do to somehow 'improve' on the works of Kurosawa. GL is a film infant by comparison. A film by Kurosawa needs no enhancement or meddeling by Lucas.

Why would he do that?

It's someone else's work, and he would respect their artistic vision.

And the fact he's been releasing them on DVD for years now untouched, speaks well too, ehh?

True , I have Ran, Throne of Blood, and Seven Samurai on DVD, all bought after GL purchased the rights and they are all just fine. I'm just saying , that if he choose to, I'd have to take steps......

Of course it does.

Lucas appears to be one of those directors that respects the artistic vision of others, particularly ones they respect, like Kurosawa.

I have Kagemusha, Ran, Throne of Blood, & Seven Samurai as well as I have my local video shop getting me Yojimbo. Also since Lucas co-produced Kagemusha and let Kurasawa do what he wanted with it, I'm glad he hasn't gone and pulled a Ted Turner.

It's bad enough if he screws with Kurosawa's works, but what if he would have the chance to mess up Eisenstein??

eek!

at least Francis got bought out of Starwars when George sold him the rights to Apacalypse Now. Could you imagine the Godfather infulence on the family Skywalker....

Vader: I did not realize untill this day that it was Don Jabba all along.
