WWE: Legends of Wrestlemania
So, every now and again, a wrasslin' game comes out that isn't a mindless button-smasher or graphic's shitfest with a convoluted control scheme that only the most drunk mullet-sporting rednecks dare master.
Weird that Legends of wrestlemania is neither of those things. Instead, it plays more like an interactive wrestling match than just about any other wrestling game I've ever played. the whole control scheme is The Left Stick or D-pad and the four face buttons - that's it - Weirdly, though, it's enough. many of the moves come down to a RTE - which, in most instances, I would hate, but here it works somehow. You never REALLY know what is going to happen during these games. Maybe you reverse a facelock into an inverted armlock. Or maybe a suplex.
Perhaps I should know what's going to happen, but I don't. Also, you cannot simply memorize the RTE buttons - they'e different every time. Also - if you "lose" the RTE, it means your opponent wins - so pay fucking attention. Also - get knocked down, you can smash buttons to get up, Or, you can hold all four buttons until your indicator is in a tiny area on the other side of the graph - miss it, and it's surely game over.
now - let's getto the really cool shit - replaying famous wrestlemanias. Man, I remember beng in like 2nd grade, right after wrestlemanis 3, and all ANYone could talk about was the fact that Hulk Hogan BODYSLAMMED Andre The Giant. Who Wasn't in awe? Remember the first time you saw Hulk Hogan lose for REALZ (Not by cheat)? For me, it was when the Ultimate Warrior beat him in WM8. I was devastated. He was as close to invincible as anyone I'd ever known. You can Relive those moments, relive those matches, Do the things that your heroes did (Meet challenges), and Become Hogan, Bret Hart, HHH, whoever. Or, you can rewrite Wrestlemania history by beating the guy who actually did win. Cool stuff. It even comes with short retrospectives of the main events.
Then there's legend killer mode. Much as I hate to admit it - I demolished hulk hogan with my created superstar. (only took like 12 tries, too!)
Anyway - I won't bore you all with more review. Bottom line is: If you're looking for a more cinematic wrestling game, don't mind randomized RTEs, and despise five button combinations to do a fucking headlock - Legends of Wrestlemania is about as close to awesome as you can get without actually being an awesome game. At it's core - it's still a silly wrestling game, which limits the audience immediately, but this is nostaligia, too. It's aimed at old farts like me who remember Big John stud, Arn Anderson, Hulk Hogan in his prime, Andre the Giant, Junkyard Dog, Iron Sheik, Nikolai Volkoff (Remember how much fun it was to hate him?) and therefore I dig it - definitely a rental right now, when the price droped to 39 bucks you better buy it.
And that's the bottom line - cause Chardok said so.

Is the Randy Savage/Ricky Steamboat match playable?

Chardok ... what happened to you? Go back to Guild Wars.
BTW many people feel random elements in fighting games are bad. This may SLIGHTLY impact on the reception of this game.

Oh I will go back to GW - And I THINK that the random elements are only random in the cinematic response - the effect on your opponent is same damage-wise (I think strog attack = strong counter-move)
(PS - I made my perma-sin build finally - I should be able to reliably farm vaettirs/raptors/snowmen now!
Re: WWE: Legends of Wrestlemania
Listen, you farm in GW, we know, nobody wants to hear about your problems. You sicken me and others.
Anyway, it being so random turns off a lot of people, and I've heard it's at a SSB level of randomness but slower, so I don't see the appeal outside of 'old men in underpants touch each other with bad animations'.

Guild Wars, a MMORPG without a monthly feeVympel wrote:What the hell is Guild Wars, whats farming, and why does it matter?
Farming, in MMO terms it involves finding the best risk/reward MOB's in a given area and then seek to commit virtual genocide on them until your rolling in virtual currency.
The other bit involves seeds, and sunshine and long slow camera pans around the farmer while music plays.

Lies - I have been playing consistenly for the last 3 days with no sign of my aussie bretheren whatsoever. I was going to try to get The Godfather 2...but no luck yet. Who knew it would be so popular?

You can have my copy when I return it. It's an interesting game but far too easy.

I can understand not knowing about Guild Wars.Vympel wrote:What the hell is Guild Wars, whats farming, and why does it matter?
But you played WoW, and never knew about farming? The game is practically farming. In fact if you take out leveling, it's all virtually that except outbursts of Dungeon/PvP. The average WoW player likely farms more then anything else since the first batches got to 60. It's basically a term that refers to repeating the same action until you achieve a certain goal. It can refer to money but has become synomous with an extraordinary amounts of other actions. It's used in concert with grinding.

Re: WWE: Legends of Wrestlemania
The sad part about Chardok's pathetic addiction is that there's no fucking point outside of vanity to farm in Guild Wars. It's not like WoW and most other games where you have to kill King Demon Dragon Vampire Chancellor Durka eighteen times to get a set drop.

You've been out awhile - elite armors, Guild Prestige, Kurzick faction rewards, etc.
Shit, looking cool is only half the fun!

How does it stack vs, say, SR 2? Be brutal.
Re: WWE: Legends of Wrestlemania
It's even uglier than SR2, the map is smaller but has a similar density of 'stuff' to do, the cars handle like really slow tanks, the gunplay is laughably easy and the only reason I haven't finished it already is because some 'rackets' can't be conquered until the story 'lets' you. The game is fiddly as hell when you've only got 1-3 guys (as you want them in your 'team' to do shit) but trivially easy once you have a few spare guys to send to defence (so you don't have to) and once you've got a full tree of 6 guys you're basically unstoppable. Fucking people up is still cool, but not as cool as on Wii, and there's no real 'management' in the game. It honestly made me want to play Gangsters again.
Maybe once the war with the Monganos hots up it'll get hard, but I'm about halfway through the movie already.

Sorry I just heard 'grindforfaction'. You'll have to repeat that. You've been out awhile - elite armors, Guild Prestige, Kurzick faction rewards, etc.
Re: WWE: Legends of Wrestlemania
No, you heard right (grindforfaction) - but somehow...for some reason. I'm finding myself really liking it.
Re: WWE: Legends of Wrestlemania
That's because you've got a disease. Go die before it gets worse or at least keep it in your pathetic circlejerk addict threads. Your life is basically over.

You're joking. My life was over 2 years ago - I gots a kid, remember? My day is spent making funny noises, extolling the virtues of the numbers 1 through 10, and watching weird television shows that border on insanity in pictures yet somehow maintain a semblance of 'educational credibility'. You think I'm going to feel like a 'fatty nerd' because I play a silly old game that requires loads of repetitious faction grinding in order to gain teh kewl armor? Give me a break! That part of my life probably makes the most sense.
Re: WWE: Legends of Wrestlemania
You don't just do it; you enjoy it. Everyone in Australia knows how much time you waste with you 'guildies' 'farming' for 'phat lewt' so you can buy nothing. It's sad.
It being GW just makes it worse. There is -no- metagame in GW. At least crap like EVE has shit to put a framework around the grinding.
