Star Trek Movie discussion rules

I know everyone is eager to watch this movie. Either to enjoy it or laugh maniacally at how far Star Trek has fallen while pelting other moviegoers with popcorn. That said, there are a number of members who will no doubt seek out to watch this movie through other means. They might even manage to find a copy of the movie before the release date.

Discussion of Star Trek based on a viewing it before May 7th is effectively banned. I seriously doubt any of us were lucky enough to get one of the coveted early screenings of the movie. That means any of us who manage to watch it before May 7th has likely pirated the movie. Such discussions would encourage piracy, which is against board rules. Furthermore, I would be forced to moderate such threads. I do not care to moderate spoiler rich threads prior to my own viewing of the movie.

There will be ZERO movie discussion until the 7th of May. You can continue to talk about released information, but any discussion of the movie from having seen it is BANNED. Teasers, trailers, and any publicly available pre-release information is acceptable discussion.

Out of curiosity, what about with regards to grey area, such as information gleaned from those who likely pirated? Or would that also be prohibited?

Any information gleaned from an illegal source is banned. Even if its filtered through parties that haven't seen the illegal source, that information is still banned. The only way to get that information is through an illegal source and it represents data not released through official means. Discussion of pirated pre-release copies encourages further piracy. It also hurts legitimate viewers by forcing spoilers onto them before the movie is aired. I've noticed early viewers tend to be extremely careless about discussing spoilers amongst those who waited. Its fair game to post spoilers in specified threads after the movie is released because anyone who enters them should know better, but releasing spoilers before the movie is released is a land mine. That and the encouragement of piracy. I want people to be able to discuss this movie in a safe environment.

Noted. I doubt I'll see any info til I see the film in theaters, but should I come across any I shall keep it under my hat.

Thanks for doing this. I had a heck of a time on my own forum regarding the Star Wars Prequels (and a few Star Wars games), due to pirated "early viewers" leaking stuff and just a general upset from people who wanted to discuss spoilers.

We ended up having a seperate forum (spoilers, non-spoilers), but that worked for us, while we still had to move a lot of discussions/posts because people forgot where they were.
