Windows 7 RC

Post by Mr Bean »

We had a topic awhile back about Windows 7 various Beta's and the RC was relesed this week to anyone with a download account at this website.

I've installed it today and am tooling around with it. I have to say I have mixed feelings on the issue. First big negative, Internet Explorer 8. I have no interest, I can't wait to get back to Firefox or Google Chrome, IE is just... eww, poor layouts, eye-straining default colors(The contrast is way to high) however the operating system itself seems spiffy. It responds much quicker. It very much feels like "A good version of Vista" .

Thoughts? I'm going to try and use it solid for a month here(It's installed on a extra HD I have hooked up to my main system) because this looks like a system I want to upgrade to.

I've been playing around with it awhile on a VM. So far its worked amazingly well and it only took 45 minutes to completely set up. Fair bit less time than Vista did, iirc. I'm not entirely thrilled with the taskbar; it just feels a bit ugly to work with for some reason. Everything I've installed on it works just handily though. CCCP, Firefox, iTunes and Steam were installed without a hitch. Even had Dawn of War Gold running for a bit to test it out. I don't think it'll be worth upgrading on its own to W7, but it seems like it'll be a good enough OS when buying a new PC down the road.
