Star Trek TWOK Blu Ray Remaster

Best buy is having a sale on the TOS Movie collection, as well as the TOS Season One blu rays, so I picked them up today.
What struck me about the remastered TWOK, which I just finished, was how you could see the texture on the clothing (in 720p no less, not 1080p; we don't have a full HDTV

); and how you can notice that the scabs on spock's skin at the end are greenish in color.
But the most noticeable thing is how much more defined the color is in this master; since BluRay was designed around the HDTV standard -- while all previous masters were for DVD, which was developed around NTSC; which is known as "Never Twice the Same Color", or "No True Skin Colors".
For example, you can see how the color of the windows on the Reliant's saucer edges, and the windows on the built up portion near the "Rollbar" are different.
I'd post screengrabs of the disc if I could; but I don't have a Blu Ray drive for my computer yet -- the writable ones are still too expensive, and
www.blu-ray.com hasn't done a review of it yet.

I'll be replacing all my ST movie DVDs with Blu-Rays shortly. I can't wait. Luckily, I have a full HDTV

Now that I have an HD LCD monitor (24" 1080P computer monitor!), I am seriously thinking about getting Blu-Ray for my computer. You might have tipped the scales Shep.

TWOK is high on my blu-ray acquisition list; it should be awesome on our 2.4m 1080p screen. However I really need to think of someone to give the DVD away to first. I'd give it to my sister, but she says she can't stand to watch the film solely because of the ear worm scene.

Wait a minute ... a 2.4M screen?!

Projector. I have a 7.1 surround system with dual 15" subwoofers too. I bought it specifically to play Ace Combat 6 on, but it's good for movies and Dead Space too.

APparently the TWOK Remaster had the sound redone in 7.1 HD.

Oh, god, I hope they didn't fuck with the sound like they did for the TMP Director's Edition.

My monitor is 4m and has a 9.2 surround sound system that's THX certified. Killer for Pong!
Prove me wrong.
Weren't the ST movie DVDs all pretty terrible? I remember trying to watch TMP years ago, and it looked like absolute shit. I rented Nemesis to destroy a friend's brain, and it looked really poor too and it doesn't have the excuse of being really, really old.
That said, the details Shep mentions are pretty obvious on the TWOK DVD I've seen (at least on screengrabs). Maybe he just upgraded his panel in the interim?

The original releases had problems, but the SE's were pretty good.

Keep in mind that you'll need a video card and monitor with an HDMI connection in order to watch it because of the DRM. Unless you buy AnyDVD, which is sold by Slysoft (they're based in Aruba to avoid US copyright laws). According to the DMCA, it's illegal to buy AnyDVD in America even if you're only using it to watch Blu-Ray discs that you legally own.
You also need AnyDVD if you want to take screenshots of Blu-Rays. I posted instructions for doing it here a long time ago, but technically you can't legally do it if you live in America. Remember that the DMCA outlaws "circumvention" of copy protection technology,
even if the purpose of that circumvention is lawful.

HDCP-protected DVI will also work.

The Star Trek Search For Spock BD I watched last night; it was not as high quality as the TWOK BD; because some scenes had sharp focus; while other shots were slightly blurred or smoothed. I don't know if it's the fault of the original director (Nimoy) or if it's this "DNR" I keep hearing about...

It is. The Digital Bits covers the issue pretty well in
their review for the set.
