Investigation Into Youtube Threat Against Officers Continues

Helsinki police are following up on a lead which they hope will lead to progress in an investigation into the source of an online video threat targeted at officers of the army's Kaarti Jäger Regiment.

Police say that once the current lead is fully checked out, a decision can be made on whether formal pre-trial investigations can be started.

In the video, uploaded to Youtube on the 12th of Julay and titled “Kaarti Massacre”, five officers of the Kaarti Jäger Regiment were mentioned by name, and their pictures shown. The video concluded with a man pointing a gun at the camera.

As a security precaution, conscripts who began their service at the regiment were submitted to an upgraded security inspection the next day. Security was upgraded at a garrison in Lahti as well.

The video was removed from Youtube. Police traced the IP address from which the video was uploaded to an anonymous server in Germany which had removed information about the original source.

I bet the fellow (or fellows) responsible for the video are smiling somewhere and congratulating themselves on a job jolly well done. Of course, he might not be smiling so much if or when the police start knocking on his door. If the guy is actually a former conscript (from the batch that ended their service this summer) he will find out that he might also have hardened sentences for threatening his former superiors in the military.

I'd say probably, but still he'll find that the police and courts here take these things very seriously, I don't know what the exact charge would be (I could ofc ask my dad, who is a lawyer, but haven't yet), but I'm pretty sure the punishment will be harsh (by our standards at least).

If it's within two years of service time in the unit, it's an automatic one count of increased sentencing, meaning 25% added to the nominal baseline (so a 4-year sentence would become 5). If caught, this idiot is going to be in deep, deep trouble.
