BREAKING NEWS (new Tiger Woods 911 call)

Post by Surlethe »

Yahoo news

Edit: Oh, shit, wrong forum.
WINDERMERE, Fla. – Fire department medics responded early Tuesday to a 911 call in the same block as Tiger Woods' Orlando-area home and took an adult to the hospital.

A spokeswoman for Orange County Fire Rescue would not confirm local news reports that the 2:36 a.m. call came from Woods' home early Tuesday or that the patient was a woman. Spokeswoman Genevieve Latham told The Associated Press that an adult patient was taken to Health Central Hospital in Ocoee, the same place Woods was treated after he crashed his sport utility vehicle outside his home last month. The patient's condition wasn't immediately known.

Media attention has been focused on the world's No. 1 golfer since he hit a hydrant and a tree around 2:25 a.m. on the Friday after Thanksgiving. The Florida Highway Patrol last week cited Woods for careless driving and fined him $164.

The accident — and Woods' refusal to answer questions about it — fueled speculation about a possible dispute between him and his wife, Elin.

Just days before the crash, a National Enquirer story alleged Woods had been seeing a New York nightclub hostess, Rachel Uchitel, who has denied it. After the crash, Us Weekly reported that a Los Angeles cocktail waitress named Jaimee Grubbs claims she had a 31-month affair with Woods.

Last week, Woods issued a statement saying he had let his family down with unspecified "transgressions" that he regrets with "all of my heart." He did not elaborate.

A police report on the crash released Monday showed that a Florida trooper who suspected Woods was driving under the influence sought a subpoena for the golfer's blood results from the hospital he was taken to after the crash, but prosecutors rejected the petition for insufficient information.

A witness, who wasn't identified in the report, told trooper Joshua Evans that Woods had been drinking alcohol earlier. The same witness also said Woods had been prescribed two drugs, Ambien and Vicodin.

The report did not say who the witness was but added it was the same person who pulled Woods from the vehicle after the accident. Woods' wife, Elin, has told police that she used a golf club to smash the back windows of the Cadillac Escalade to help her husband out. His injuries were minor.

The sister of a neighbor who called 911 after the crash told troopers that Woods' mother, Kultida, and mother-in-law, Barbro Holmberg, were also at the scene, but the AP has not been able to confirm that.

Eva Malmborg, a spokeswoman for Holmberg, said Tuesday that she could not comment on the reports about a woman being taken from Woods' neighborhood to the hospital.

"I haven't been in contact with her and like I said I don't know where she is — and so I can neither confirm or deny anything," Malmborg said.

Malmborg confirmed Holmberg had taken a week's leave from her job as Gavleborg county governor in central-east Sweden, but said she did not know where Holmberg had gone.

There was no sign of emergency workers later Tuesday morning at the Woods' gated community, where luxury SUVs and cars drove in and out as a few reporters and television news trucks milled around outside.

A Government founded upon justice, and recognizing the equal rights of all men; claiming higher authority for existence, or sanction for its laws, that nature, reason, and the regularly ascertained will of the people; steadily refusing to put its sword and purse in the service of any religious creed or family is a standing offense to most of the Governments of the world, and to some narrow and bigoted people among ourselves.

That's completely insane. The people responsible for this article should be fired, because they are clearly not doing their jobs; to report news.

Strange as it may seem, but if the private life of a world class celebrity golfer appears to be imploding, then by many standards that would classify as news worthy of being reported in the sports section. Especially when the article is surrounded by such world-shaking headlines as "Rodgers throws 3 TDs as Packers beat Ravens 27-14" or "McCoy, Tebow among five Heisman finalists". In such illustrious company I know which headline draws my attention.

The gist of the article is "something happened". I would not call that news. All this is is a sensational headline over an event that may or may not be somehow related to someone who was in the news a few days ago; by that standard, I'm sure we'll next see articles about Woods' hairdresser having a cold he may or may not have picked up from him.

Additionally, having what appears to be a marital dispute is not "imploding".

His image is most certainly imploding. Going from dedicated family man to cheating on his wife with random women, most of which are much less attractive than the wife, is quite the change.

I cannot recall him ever making statements to the perfection of his character but regardless he took endorsements from companies and was sold as a hard working, dedicated, loyal etc. golfer. A guy you could trust.

The philandering does not completely invalidate this image of trustworthiness but it gives a full broadside and then some.

I don't expect him to be receiving any more high level endorsements in the near future barring excellent tournament performance.

Regardless this is not simply a marital dispute. This is a redefining of how the public is going to view Tiger and has alot more effects than a typical marital dispute. Million dollar ad campaigns hinging on his character make sure of that.

I agree. Speaking of my own personal preference about an admittedly shallow aspect, I cannot see what he saw in those other women. Other than the obvious that they aren't his wife (perhaps the marriage had staled and he was looking for a new thrill), but he sure seems to have aimed pretty low. Clearly he wasn't thinking with anything other than what's below the belt because this whole business is just unbelievably stupid on his part.

I enjoyed watching him play golf and I'll still watch, but he's a real shitstain for screwing around as he has.

Wait and see if there are any other women. There's already, what, three? Might be more--It won't surprise me in the least.

NINE according to this article.

I'm loving this whole scandal. If professional athletes are overpaid, then Tiger Woods in the most overpaid sonuvabitch in the history of professional athletes for playing the most boring televised sport.

If I were away from my beautiful wife half of the time, and had women throwing themselves at me, hell, I might eventually give in to temptation. And I'm sure I'm not alone.

As for the money issue, as you well know, it isn't about what an athlete is worth, it's about how much he can get. Tiger's the best in the world at what he does by a pretty fair margin. Golf is still a very popular sport, and makes billions of dollars each year through various means. There is a market for this sort of endorsement, and Tiger fills it, and commands what he commands in terms of his compensation. (I assume that you object to his tournament wins, as they are earned in the most fair way imaginable: he defeats other players who are playing the same game. If he plays poorly, he is compensated poorly.)

I'm by no means a Tiger apologist. He's going to pay for his transgressions in several ways, though his prenuptial agreement precludes a proper settling of accounts. And for his behaviour, he definitely deserves all the repercussions that are coming. As with all things, it's more complicated than "Tiger's an idiot, he cheated on his supermodel wife", though certainly he was stupid to have behaved the way he did.
73% of all statistics are made up, including this one.

I'm waiting as fast as I can.

The gist of the article is not merely that "something happened", it's "something happened in a celebrity household known for having marital problems and someone got taken to a hospital in an ambulance". That's something the people interested in the goings-on around Woods, of whom there are many, might want to read about, and thus it is news. Do also note that the article got updated as more information became available, as is usual with breaking news.

So in other words you expect him to keep getting high level endorsements?

He's Tiger Fucking Woods, greatest golfer in the world by the length of the straight. His image might be tarnished but as the frenzied reception he received here in Australia shows, ultimately people care about his golf.

I love the smell of September in the morning. Once we got off at Richmond, walked up to the 'G, and there was no game on. Not one footballer in sight. But that cut grass smell, spring rain...it smelt like victory.

Dynamic. When [Kuznetsov] decided he was going to make a difference, he did it...Like Ovechkin...then you find out - he's with Washington too? You're kidding.

Read more carefully. The article actually says "something happened in a household on the same block as a celebrity household blah blah blah." It's news-by-proximity.
