You better be packing some serious server duties, CAD use, or other RAM-hungry task to even consider a 24GB memory kit, such as the 24GB Dominator tri-channel DDR3 memory kt Corsair released this week.
"Corsair's 24GB Dominator memory kit is perfect for high-performance computing applications, including computation research, HD digital content creation, working with multiple virtual machines, and other data-intensive applications," said John Beekley, VP of Technical Marketing at Corsair.
Corsair claims its new 24GB kit has gone through rigorous testing in high performing systems built around Intel's X58 platform. The kit consists of six 4GB DDR3 modules clocked at 1333MHz with 9-9-9-27 timings and a 1.65 vDIMM.
As you might expect, a 24GB kit doesn't come cheap, and this one's no exception. It's available now direct from Corsair for $1,350
At 56.50$ a Gig it's a little pricey. If they knocked it down to say 1,000$ or roughly a 41.60$ a gig I could see it being bought at a serious savings. However Windows 7 Premium users will only be able to use 16 gigs of it since MS for no reason reason limited the standard version to only 16 gigs. Ah well I spent the extra 10$ and bought Professional for just that kind of reason. For the as yet unmentioned time when a giant sack of money would drop in my lap and I could build a computer with twenty four gigs of ram.

Ridiculously overpriced. You can get 6x4GB of ddr3 1333 ecc ram for under $800; I know, since I've been drooling over that for a while now. The main value of this kit seems to be to allow people with X58 boards that don't support ECC to get to 24GB. And, if you needed that much to begin with, you were probably pretty stupid for not going for a Xeon setup anyway...
By the time I actually max out the 12 gigs on my i7 box the 4 gig modules will have dropped drastically in price so I'll just wait.
So I stare wistfully at the Lightning for a couple of minutes. Two missiles, sharply raked razor-thin wings, a huge, pregnant belly full of fuel, and the two screamingly powerful engines that once rammed it from a cold start to a thousand miles per hour in under a minute. Life would be so much easier if our adverseries could be dealt with by supersonic death on wings - but alas, Human resources aren't so easily defeated.
