SW post NJO

"Final Prophecy" (the last book in the series) comes out in November sometime around my 21st birthday.
Where can the EU possibly go next? There is some kind of consensus that there should not be another token Dark Jedi and it also looks as if the Empire is going to be gradually absorbed by the new Galactic Alliance. The only way that angle could be worked out is if one of Luke's student's, preferably one of the Solo Twins.
What happens next? The only enemy I can think of would be the Chiss and that has positive and negative connotations.
Pro: Potential for Timothy Zahn to demonstrate his skills again, the Chiss are excellent enemies.
Con: I don;t think the Chiss have any desire to control territory beyond what they have unless they are in dire need of expansion. Also, I wouldhate to see the great species bastardized by KJA and the like.
Maybe we could make a case for Outbound Flight Project II and shoot Jedi into a new galaxy. they leave for awhile, onlyto return and see a new Empire in place with Emperor Jacen Solo at the helm.

Apparently they are going to go prequel era. However, after 2005 "hard to see the future is". We may be looking at the end of SW shortly.

If the SW galaxy survives the Vong i cant think of much worth writing after that anymore, it ought to be a VERY intuitive and new idea for books after NJO time period to be interesting.

Frankly, I think the best thing they can do is flesh out some of the events of the prequel era with good quality stories (iow, Zahn). They had to contrive things to make the NJO work and I don't want to see that or worse yet, some of the crap they've pulled in the worst of the EU books.
The best thing I think they can do is the prequel era. It's a galaxy in turmoil and a major battle between good and evil. Excellent grounds for some really really good, dramatic stories. I can see a ton of really good ideas with out even really trying but I doubt they'll go that route.
Not to mention I'd like to see some of the events mentioned in passing shown. They'd likewise make for some good stories.

I think I read something about Luke and Mara adventures before NJO started....
From TF.net
Survivor's Quest
by Timothy Zahn
This New Republic era hardcover marks Timothy Zahn's eagerly awaited return to Star Wars, and details the exploits of Luke Skywalker and his new wife, Mara Jade, prior to the New Jedi Order.

Maybe a novelisation of the Great Sith War?

That was what I was going to say Pounder. Books about the beginning of the galaxy, the republic, the sith, hell there's plenty to write between Episodes III and IV.

Also maybe the fall of the different Republics. It seems clear from statements from characters that the Republic has existed in severl different forms and eras. Let's hear more about them.

The Chiss are overhyped.
They're actually quite small and insignificant.

Agreed. There's so much you can do in the past, and it would be nice to see a galaxy that's much rougher and uncivilized than in NJO.

You know what I agree 100% with this. I remember before Destiny's Way everyone saying that the Chiss were gonna come and kick the YV ass all over the place. I found it rather fan-wanking-boyish.

Well the old rehashed Imperial/Dark Side User of the Week story lines are gone. We've had plenty enough of extra galactic invasion (Ssi-Ruuvi, Vong), and the Chiss-although a fascinating culture that could make for some good short stories-don't really belong in a full feature novel, as enemies anyways. They might be able to pull of Random Evil SYstem of the Week, like the Koornatch Cluster crisis, but that (like the Black Fleet Crisis, and Extra Galctic Invaders) is over-done, and would too be boring.
I could see some post YV cleanup. Rebuilding Coruscant? Stuff like that would still be boring though, it seems SW has exhausted its villian rack.
I'm sure they'll do some prequel stuff for now, and more once EpIII premiers. But what of our OT heroes? I guess only time will tell.

The Dark Lord of the Sith, Lumiya.
Scandal, corruption, and conflict in the reconstruction in the post-invasion period.
Yuuzhan Vong insurgents.
A new Galactic government with new troubles and scandals.

Ill agree that up until recently they have sucked but Jacen has recently become more of a bad ass and Jaina has really plunged and is quite the fighter pilot.
however, a new Emperor killing them as part of his ascending would be fucking kewl, then this new emperor Reigns until Ben Skywalker is old enough to fight
that might be what hapens tho, the next novels would take place as ben Skywalker begins learning the force with his badly aging father, old Luke Skywalker then gets killed and Ben goes for Revenge. Then Ben Skywalker kills the solo twins! Wow!
then the bastard love child of wicket and Jar Jar leads an army of kowakian howler monkeys too....ack! Force choked!

She's from original continuity and she's surfaced over the years since she suffered her defeat by Skywalker after Endor.

Final Prophecy eh? Is the final prophecy the final slap to Lucas' face? Yes, that's right, do we learn that not only does the Force have neither light nor dark, but that THERE IS NO FORCE!!! Ultimate cop out!!!

Nice incoherent bitch fest when it is probably a mostly meaningless title like all the others.
Slap to Lucas' face?
Fucking canon purists.

Or it could be that they finally learn that they live in a system, a system based on rules. And that it is not so much that the Force is real, but that they can break those rules. And that it's not so much that they can dodge turbolaser bolts, but that when they're fully trained, they won't have to.

What they need now are the smaller stories. Similar to the "Tales from..." but in full length novel form. People on the periphery who we never see or even hear of in the movies and how it effects them.
OR
Lucas could buy out Paramount and ST, then commission a Worlds Without End movie series.

Trollish behavior.
Like we really need or want your whining in every EU related thread, don't like it, fuck off.
The force never had light or dark, that was even indicated in the movies, it's a pathetic concept applied by pathetic beings who cannot comprehend the force.

Those are my thoughts exactly. It's not that the Force has a light side or a dark side, it's how the person uses the force that determines if the person is a "dark sider" or a "light sider."
