I am a non-sectarian, libertarian socialist. I do not subscribe to any particular leftist parties, due to the combination of a lack of choices adequately similar to my politics, an opposition to party dogmatism in general and on the left in particular, and an anarchist skepticism toward party political organization in both the representative democratic and revolutionary vanguard senses. When I do vote or participate opportunistically in party politics, I have in the past voted for Democrats, including Barack Obama. However, I can foresee certain elections where I could vote for a sufficiently liberal or libertarian Republican (probably impossible out of the Northwest). I have volunteered and organized for the Democratic Party on behalf of left-liberal candidates and referenda on the basis of social-civil libertarian principles, and preventing immanent onslaughts to civilized society by far-right plutocrats, theocrats, or authoritarians. I have also organized and participated in radical protests and meetings that were largely organized by local coalitions (typically via the local chapter of the Students for a Democratic Society) of radicals, some independent but most from Marxist-Leninist sects (including the International Socialist Organization--a largely student Trotskyist organization--and the Freedom Road Socialist Organization (Fight Back)--a distasteful Stalinist-apologist Maoist organization--): against war, for workers' and labor rights and organizing, against police brutality and corporate crime. In other cases I work with radical social-civil libertarians (NORML, ACLU, Straight-LBGTQ Alliance groups): against police brutality, drug prohibition, or for gay rights, etc. or green/environmental activists (Sierra Club etc) on a case-by-case basis (I am pro-nuclear power, and generally conflict with radical greens and some anarchists in that I am a techno-progressivist and don't think there is any ruralist utopia with magic reductions in population and scientific progress to be found).

I voted Independent, but I believe I'm in the same boat since I switched to Democrat to vote in the Presidential Primary and don't recall switching back. Whether I actually do will depend where I end up moving to after I get a new job and move out of PA.

When it come to my actual political stance, I have to echo a lot of Illuminatus Primus' stance, although I haven't really been involved with political organizing and haven't focused too much on local politics, partially cause I've moved around a bit too much.

Same here. I don't like or respect the Democrats, or think they support my views much; but the Republicans are so incompetent and so evil that I vote Democrat just to keep Republicans out of office. I'd never vote for a Republican.

I might vote Republican for local official, but when you get to the national scene they do become cartoon villians. Also, thanks Illuminatus- I didn't realize the term "techno-progressive" existed, but it encapsles the majority of the board very well.

I used to be registered Republican under the naive, misguided belief that they were still actually conservative and followed libertarian principles along the lines of Barry Goldwater. I don't have a lot of love for the Democratic party, but I switched for the primaries to vote for Obama and other Democratic candidates who are far, far more preferable to all the recent Republican offerings. I might vote Republican again if they can actually manage to put forth a decent candidate, but I don't see that happening any time soon.

I'm registered Democrat, but I'm rarely really satisfied with what I get. Except at local level, I'm quite pleased with our local reps.

Mostly I'm disappointed with the sheer spinelessness of Dems at the national level to take on the Republicans.

I registered with a party after the 2000 elections because I thought the better choices got screwed out in the primaries. I just finally got around to switching back to being non-affiliated. I think there actually is or has been an Independent Party from time to time so now Arizona just lets you say "no party affiliation".

One draw back to changing my party affiliation is I'll probably get jury duty again pretty soon. It always seems that when I change my legal address at the DMV or mess with my voter registration that I get called for jury duty not long after. It's been more than a few years since I last had it so I felt that it was time to change. I just don't feel comfortable being linked to either the Democrats or Republicans.

Officially I'm independent because I have yet to register with the Modern Whig Party [mostly because of the recent removal of nuclear power from the official platform]). Unofficially I've voted in the last few democratic primaries, but tend to vote for republicans nationally, and a mixed bag at the state level (for example, I plan to vote to reelect Ted Strickland to the governors mansion this fall).
