New The Old Republic trailer

Post by Braedley »

A new trailer for The Old Republic was unveiled today at E3 (I don't have a link if you haven't seen it yet though) and I just want a yea or nay on a few things.

Am I correct in assuming that I saw the following characters: Spoiler
Bastila Shan, Darth Malak, and Revan?
And if so, am I also correct in assuming that it takes place Spoiler
just before KotOR?

The Old Republic trailer: Hope

I am not Malak. So no none of the characters are related directly to Kotor. This trailer appears to be set prior to all the others based upon the injures of Malgus. As to the female jedi looking like Bastilla, you can blame Bioware for their inability to create character models that differ significantly.

Well, the design for that trooper armor was certainly original.

And was that Jedi woman pulling off hadoukens? o_O

Yeah I have said this before, but honestly, how many different ways can you make full coverage armor for humans? They are all going to look slighty similar. They could have gone with a more distinct helmet though.

And shit I hate the EU, but fuck, I love their trailers and cinematics! :D

Well Bastila does use a double bladed light sabre, although the blade colour is different. As for Revan, yeah, I'm probably wrong. I didn't notice that basically all the Sith other than Malgus was wearing the same type of mask.

I do enjoy the uber-wank trailers for SW games the Lucasarts seems to be putting out lately.

However, it is annoying to read the youtube comment section and see an endless swarm of +1 responses that say "lolz they should have let [insert game company here, usually Bioware] do the prequels. George Lucas is teh suxxor."
And this is why you don't watch anything produced by Ronald D. Moore after he had his brain surgically removed and replaced with a bag of elephant semen.-Gramzamber, on why Caprica sucks

So it starts off with CLONE TR...I mean Republic Soliders in Commando White Body armor in the forest! They start by intelligently attacking the Droid Sith Army of the Sith Confederation with zee +5 HIGH ground! But then they realize that +10 heroic charge is better and go into GoW mode!! After Heavy Machine Space Marine Terminator unleashes supah barrage, Space Marine Captain realizes his buddy Fritz just got whacked by SITH LORD! SMC must lay the SMACKDOWN on THE Sith Bitch and throws two Sith Red Shirt aside because they are in his way.

After getting hit by level 4 lightning, he is rescued by Plucky Pigtails! She goes in Matrix Disco Dancing to which her opponents spar and get hit by the lightsaber choppa! She engages SITH LORD in vicious single combat! They go at it, his disarms her, she blocks his Penis +8 with her hand proving SITH LORD will never get any, and then SPACE MARINE MASTER realizes her poon powers will fail, charges in! They look at each other grunting in their manly language, in which he reveals why the chump is going to pay him 50 thousand credits...BECAUSE HE'S HOLDING A THERMAL DETONATOR!!!!

But since this is Super Sith Saiyan...he shrugs it off, only to get bitched by Pigtails...who unleashs her HAAAADOKEEEEEEN!!! Space Marine God gets up noting he now has a manly scar and fires his flare.

...Okay, what the flying goddamn fuck. If I play a free subscription of this game I am playing super commando because he not only bitched wannabe Sith fucks, he engages the main man in hand to hand and takes a point blank detonation with some meh damage. Fuck Sith Lord and his power, apparently Traviss is right about Commando Manhood.

Well, the Sith troopers of KOTOR and KOTOR2 weren't a bad alternative. It's really only limited to your imagination. For example, how about some sort of fancy futuristic lamellar-look (but not feel)? Its pretty contrived is all I'm saying, no imagination.

I like this trailer about a million times more than the TFU2 trailer, even though both have overblown Force powers at work.

Unless the clone troopers' armour was derived from a template that the Republic has used for quite some time. Like how modern, western helmets are derived from German ones.

That trailer is of a battle during the Great Galactic War, 270 years after KoTOR2. The 'Deceived' trailer takes place at the culmination of the war with the sacking of Coruscant, which follows with the Treaty of Coruscant, marking the beginning of the Galactic Cold War.

As for the KOTOR characters, they are all dead. As for Bastila her descendant, Satele Shan, is the Grand Master of the Jedi Order during the TOR games and we already know what she looks like so it's not her. It's possible she's related to Bastilla, but I consider it unlikely that they'd have two descendants of her as iconic characters.
Satele immediately after the treaty. (on the left)

And I hate one-liners; they make me want to HoS things.

I don't honestly have a problem with armour design similarities in the Star Wars universe; if anything, it demonstrates the fact that they've hit the technology peak and are an ancient civilization - the best damn armour you can build for humans looks like that, we're done.

Blur Studios is their go to guys for this (they did the TFU2 video, as well). Apart from the hilarity of Commander Deepvoice MacGruff, I think this wasn't their best work. Needed more effortlessly shattering granite and cremating stormtroopers with telekinesis.

I liked some of it, because it was shiny...but really the Clon, I mean OR commando trooper was fucking beyond kickass. I can grant a lot of leeway, especially game cinematics, for Force abilities being insane. But having Col Arnold Stallone take a basically a grenade at point blank and all he gets is some minor scuffing?

They were going a little far with fanboy spanking :P .

To be fair, that could be the Wars equivalent of a stun grenade of sorts. Even flashbangs and the like can maim or kill given the proper (wrong) circumstances. He, like most of the inhabitants of the FFA Galaxy, could have been largely ignorant of the durability that Force enhancements give and simply not counted on Malgus to shrug it off.

Still pretty boss, though.

Your ineffectual nerd rage amuses me.

Liked the trailer. Too bad the game won't be able to compare to it. I'd like to see more gameplay visuals before I make my final opinions on the game...

That's true I did forget adding in that last bad ass motherfucker into it all.

But even with the thought of stun grenade, it's the pushback and effects. Really, I can accept the rest because after a while you watch this shit and laugh at it. But it was just having it implied as a suicide tactic(or one thinks, having a live explosive of any sort in point blank because said opponent will just push it aside), but it wasn't because he took Mando Manhood at level 3 :P .

I still get a laugh from it all and that makes it better then most previews, even if it wasn't supposed to evoke that particular emotion.

Yeah, given the fact that the grenade blew them 20' apart, I don't think it was a stun grenade.

And is it just me, or did the Sith guy's face get increasing fucked up the more damage he took.

Perhaps it was a stun grenade for armoured infantry? :P

(of course we'd have to ignore the fact that it was totally ineffective on commando dude. What the fuck kind of grenade is that?)

Wookiepedia says the injuries he took from that grenade lead to him wearing the face-mask we saw him with in the previous trailer.

Also, that is some bitching armor to be able to take a grenade point-blank. The trooper really should have worn a helmet, though...bet he'll be carrying some nasty shrapnel scars from that.

Yes, his face should really be a mess of gore, but people generally don't bleed in Star Wars. Roll with it.

You would think those sith mooks would have some mildly better close combat skills, at least to avoid getting thrown by some trooper. HEY ASSHOLE, YOU HAVE A LIGHTSABRE.
