Rumsfield is considering moving the US troops away from the DMZ in Korea or out of S. Korea altogether despite increasing hostilities. What are they thinking??
Good god, they're inviting another war!

One must first establish that Shrubby's junta are capable of thinking before inquiring as to what they are thinking. What are they thinking?
About the only constant in the Shrubby Administration is that the members of the junta are completely unable to comprehend the consequences of their actions. There's no reason to suspect that this has changed recently.

That South Korea is more then capable of defending its self against invasion without two brigades of US light infantry and a couple tank battalions.Trytostaydead wrote:

This would be because there Army is the size of the US active force and has a two generation technological advantage over the North.

The US presense in the ROK isn't there specifically to halt a DPRK advance but rather to act as a tripwire political deterrant. Attacking the ROK would mean attacking American troops and as a reult going to war with both the ROK and the US.
A US withdrawal from the Korean theater is much more significant politically rather than militarily. Militarily it won't change much. Politically it would be a destabalising action because it would give the DPRK one less thing to think about before deciding to expand the sphere of <sarcasm>glorious socialism</sarcasm>.

If South Korea doesn't want us in country, than that is their choice. Personally I think it's suicide what they're doing, but it's not my decision. South Korea is a sovereign nation, and if they don't want us there, then we must respect their wishes and leave.
The most basic assumption about the world is that it does not contradict itself.

However, US forces don't need to be on the boarder or within easily bombardment range for that. Its very unlikely the 2'd infantry division will leave the country, but pulling it south makes sence. It would save alot of money amoung other things.Enlightenment wrote:The US presense in the ROK isn't there specifically to halt a DPRK advance but rather to act as a tripwire political deterrant. What they are thinking is that N-Korea has been noises to the effect of saying that the US forces in S-Korea are in themselves becoming more and more a Reason for War.
Also N-Korea's Leadership dosn't want S-Korea, how long do you think the leadership of N-Korea would last if half it's population started telling the other half that their leader wasn't perfect or great, that he was in fact a two bit dictator! The thing most likely to cause war in Korea is the presence of the US, because Bush included N-Korea in his Axis of Evil, making it appearant with his actions over Iraq what he wants to do this Axis... except N-Korea has the bomb meaning America can't risk it...

From a review of the two Towers.... 'As for Gimli being comic relief, what if your comic relief had a huge axe and fells dozens of Orcs? That's a pretty cool comic relief. '
