God of War vs. Sci-fi

Post by kilopi505 »

So...I just chatted with a classmate about God of War. He said Kratos will tear every other fantasy character into pieces. So...how about sci-fi enemies? Will Kratos kill them all? Minbari, Stormtrooper, Jaffa, anything? Will Kratos just headbutt a Minbari Sharlin into a wreck? Use planets and stars as a giant wrecking ball now that he's basically a freaking god?

Kratos is extremely strong and tough, but there's not much to indicate that he could exactly go after starships. Except maybe teleporting on board using the Loom of Fate, I guess.

There are plenty of sci-fi with especially godly gods. Having not played much God of War (only the first one, once, a long time ago), I'm not certain of Kratos' capabilities, but I don't think he'd outdo (for instance) some of the functionally omnipotent beings we see in Star Trek, for instance.

There is nothing quantifiable in God of War.

A scientist once gave a public lecture on astronomy. He described how the Earth orbits around the sun and how the sun, in turn, orbits around the centre of a vast collection of stars called our galaxy.

At the end of the lecture, a little old lady at the back of the room got up and said: 'What you have told us is rubbish. The world is really a flat plate supported on the back of a giant tortoise.

The scientist gave a superior smile before replying, 'What is the tortoise standing on?'

'You're very clever, young man, very clever,' said the old lady. 'But it's turtles all the way down.'

A Force Choke will kill him, unless Kratos has shown himself being able to live without air. If Force Choking his esophagus won't work, then the Jedi can just Force Choke the blood vessels in his brains, giving him an aneurysm. The end. Any speed advantage of Kratos, if not chalked up to game mechanics, will be negated by Jedi Precog since the Shroud of the Darkside isn't in this scenario. Hell, I bet Hermes couldn't do much better, either.

Well given a magic item he can swim underwater indefinitely so perhaps he can. Though it might also work by serving as magic gills or something...

Then the Jedi will just Force Choke the nephrons of his kidneys and, Shroud of the Darkside notwithstanding, the God of War will keel over from acute renal failure. 8)

The trouble with killing him is that he just beats his way back out of hades. Again.

Then the Jedi can just use the Force Choke to constrict the blood vessels in the motor portions of his brain, thus paralyzing him while keeping him alive so he won't die, go to Hades, fight his way through the afterlife, and return to life and kill 'em. Yes. Use the Force Choke to choke the spinal cord, somewhere in the cervical parts.

You could argue that since Kratos is the God of War, like the bloodshed of the Clone Wars, he can cause a Shroud of the Darkside. In that case, he can just punch a Jedi's face off or shoot one in the face, just like Jango Fett. :D

Kratos has done nothing in the God of War games that a mid to high level D&D Character can't duplicate or surpass.

In fact, Dragon magazine 328 stated up his weapons once. There are more powerful magic items in the Dungeon master's guide / via random generation.
For comparison, they were basically +3 adamantine Great Swords that were considered light weapons and had a 10 foot reach (20 feet would probably have been closer). They also could only be destroyed by powerful magics, and would regrow.

A mid-level D&D Wizard could contain Kratos indefinately. All they'd need to do is trap him in a Forcecage (Solid wall), and then cast Permency on him.

Kratos is bad-ass in his own universe. Take him out of it, and he's just cool looking. Kinda like the Borg in Star trek.

For example, if Kratos where to step into the Bleach universe, most of the high-end characters would rip him a new one.
Odds are, however, Kratos ends up killed, or sealed away for a few thousand years.

A Kenpachi vs Kratos fight would be interesting however.

Jedi don't use Force choke. ;)

Still, Luke Skywalker resisted the pull of a supermassive black hole and absorbed the shots of an AT-AT. At his strongest (probably around LOTF) he'd have a good chance at beating Kratos.

Or:

Kratos: I AM THE GOD OF WAR HARHARHARHAR!!!!!
Officer: Commander, I'm seeing this wierd bald shouting at us.
Ackbar: Hm, strange.
Officer: He's trying to attack us.
Kratos: I SHALL THROW MY THUNDERBOLT AT YOUR GIANT FLYING TITAN!!!!!!
Ackbar: What was that?
Officer: Probably some static.
Ackbar: He's probably an imperial. Blast him!
*bang*
Kratos dies

Yeah, how many times has he done that, now? 4 times? It's practically a running joke.

To be fair he only actually died twice. In Chains of Olympus and GoW3 he just sort of falls in there.

In the first boss fight of the series he physically overpowers the Hydra, which is the size of an island.

Beginning of Return of the Jedi, Jabba's Palace, night. Hooded figure (that's Luke Skywalker) walks in. The guards step forward to intercept him and then stumble back, clutching at their throats. If that's not a Force choke then I don't know what is.

Aren't you saying he's not that great because a DnD magazine made up stats off the top of their head? Who gives a shit what they say?

Da. The only reason why the Jedi didn't use this in the PT when, say, fist-fighting with Jango Fett or something was because the Shroud of the Darkside limited their abilities. Without the Shroud of the Darkside, they would face no such problems. :)

They stated the weapon, not Kratos himself.

And Like I said, I've seen nothing from Kratos that a D&D character can't duplicate, or surpass.

He's big-shit in his universe, but outside of it, he's fairly common.
