I am considering of hosting an amateur film festival for our local anime convention. I would like this to include doujinshi or fan videos, both live-action and animated. While I would have these be completely original footage, I am concerned if they would infringe on copyrights since they would still be based off of copyrighted material even if they are for non-profit particularly since they would not necessarily be parody.
Does anybody have any have any insights?

Re: Fan film festival
Parody is only a subset of what can be considered acceptable fair use under US copyright law, provided you live in the US. Original footage displayed purely for non profit is pretty solid fair use, at least as long as the original footage is not a exercise in exact shot for shot recreations of the original work, which would get onto shaky grounds.
