VOIP Microphone For A Netbook

Post by Zaune »

I've recently become aware of a small flaw in my plan to use my netbook as a really big smartphone*: The built-in microphone is completely useless. I'm going to need a replacement.

There are three major stipulations:

1. Bluetooth is an option, but it's not my first choice; I've zero experience with setting up Bluetooth devices on Linux, or anything else for that matter, and I'd prefer to only need to manage one set of batteries.

2. I don't want to spend more than £30, otherwise I might as well say "screw it" and buy another ten quid Nokia from Tesco's.

3. Microphone only would be better than a headset; I've already got a perfectly good set of headphones and I don't want to faff about swapping them over if I get a call. I also cannot stand the one-earphone sort of headset, because if there's any kind of background noise it confuses the hell out of me. (Not a problem with handsets though, don't ask me why.)

If the specs matter at all, the netbook is an EeePC 901 running Lubuntu.

* And before you get stuck into sporking this idea, riddle me this. How's watching porn on a screen the size of a fag packet working out for you?
There are hardly any excesses of the most crazed psychopath that cannot easily be duplicated by a normal kindly family man who just comes in to work every day and has a job to do.

Replace "ginger" with "n*gger," and suddenly it become a lot less funny, doesn't it?
