Podcasts, Youtube Channels, and other narrow cast content

Not really sure that the title says much so I'll explain the jist of this here.

I've pretty much stopped watching TV, outside of sports, over the past five years. That's not uncommon, but I don't even watch stuff that could have been on TV online, I've been preferring youtube content, podcasts, webcomics and that sort of thing as my entertainment of choice. The narrow casted nature of these shows means that instead of watching stuff that panders to an average demographic, I can watch stuff that's made for a smaller subset of people.

Outside of the narrower focus and my ability to choose what I like rather than sift through things a network thinks people in my age bracket might like I also like the fact that I can interact with the people who create content for me. Sure the larger channels and certain personalities are still distant from fans, but I've had online conversations with the guys from 'Lost in the Static' and 'Another Damn Talk Show' and they guys that run these shows are cool. I've even gone so far as to toss money there way outside of the usual patreon channels just because I like to feel included and know that even if I can't create something that I can help somebody else live a dream.

Do any of you have similar connections with media or am I just an oddball?
