Of all the variants of stormtrooper armor contrived over the years, which one do you think is the best? This includes stuff from The Force Awakens, Legends Canon and The Clone Wars (but not anything from The Old Republic era).

Would the Darktrooper Phase III power armor count?
Turns out that a five way cross over between It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, the Ali G Show, Fargo, Idiocracy and Veep is a lot less funny when you're actually living in it.

He said Legends Canon, so, yes.

Probably OT armor. Though Shadowtrooper armor is pretty close. Not Shadow Trooper or Shadow Stormtrooper, Shadowtrooper as from Dark Forces III Jedi Knight II Jedi Outcast. Its a real pity it get ignored or forgotten with no cosplay or respect.
That looks like it was designed by Tony Stark, only slightly less bulky.

'No. No dating for the Batman. It might cut into your brooding time.'

'Hey, we both have a Martian's phone number on our speed dial. I think I deserve the benefit of the doubt.'
'You know, for a guy with like 50 different kinds of vision, you sure are blind.'
design? For that I'd say OT followed by phase 2 (ROTS) clonetrooper, then TFA Stormtrooper then phase 1 Clonetrooper.
Function? Alot of the suits in legendaries and some in the movies are specialized for certain tasks, so they might function for that purpose they loose on others with Basic suits probably being jack of all traits version.
Overall? again some of the suits were specialized for specific tasks instead of being "generic" so the base suits win simply by being decent at everything without being good at anything.

As for actual functionality or combat performance, I think the Clone Trooper Commando armor from Republic Commando was really good.
I also agree with you on the snow trooper armor. That was always my favorite. It would be cool if they were able to use that same design for the regular troopers. I also liked the scout trooper armor from the OT. I mean all the styles of storm trooper armor look good to me. But those 2 stand out the most for me.

The only nitpick I have with the scout troopers is that they should have *just* had the visor, instead of the blinder parts on the sides...
Something like a chemical or volcanic variant of the snow trooper would be awesome, (imagine the below in grey, black, or dark green)...

Yeah I see your point with the sides on the scout troopers helmet. But I did dig the practicality of the suit design. Well as far as the snow trooper design, it looked pretty good in ROTS too with the color variations. The new ones look cool too.

Yeah, you can see that the scout armor is designed to be lighter and more maneuverable, befitting someone who has to jump on a speeder at a moment's notice, or potentially move through brush/foliage. It's just that the white doesn't aid in their concealment...

Yeah I found that funny that they had scouts in a forest while wearing white uniforms. They stuck out like sore thumbs! lol

While I do like that helmet, I did always think it was impractical for anyone but especially impractical for someone who gets around at high speed. Those blinders must make speeder bike piloting horrible due to wind resistance.
My favorite helmet has always been the Ralph Mcquarrie Concept for the stormtroopers.
Homo sapiens! What an inventive, invincible species! It's only been a few million years since they crawled up out of the mud and learned to walk. Puny, defenseless bipeds. They've survived flood, famine and plague. They've survived cosmic wars and holocausts. And now, here they are, out among the stars, waiting to begin a new life. Ready to outsit eternity. They're indomitable... indomitable. ~ Dr.Who

I always figured they were part of some sort of sensor suite above and beyond what a normal stormtrooper helmet has given the scout role. Maybe they house emitters or receivers. But yeah, on their face they seem off. Maybe that whole volume should be filled like a VR set to emphasis the sensors contained within.
Aesthetically, I think I like the First Order's Snowtroopers or Flametroopers.
(Someone posted on the Internet, at io9 IIRC, that the First Order stormtrooper helmets look a bit like duck bills. Now I can't unsee it).

The McQuarrie concept is kinda derpy, but I can see how it might have been a somewhat more practical design. In general my favorite would probably have to go to Republic Commando armour, or Episode III clonetrooper armour, especially the suits worn by the 501st. I always thought the armour looked better with a little colour added...
Classic stormies, but clonetroopers from RotS a close second.

I'm going to go with classic Stormtrooper armor--which, unlike the armor from a certain recent movie, is fully sealed, providing protection against environmental hazards up to neurotoxins and short-term vacuum exposure.
