I am sure a great many of us here know that the British are going to build two new carriers of a STVOL design for their Harriers, then eventually their JSF F-35s. Now, the British traditionally modify and design their STVOL craft for both ground attack and air combat. I would not be surprised that the Royal Navy F-35s will be superior air combat craft compared to the US military versions. However the Brits will be missing something. For a truly effective carrier you need AWACs support.
Could the V-22 be modified into an EV-22? That would provide a vehicle with heavy lift capacity, a decent top speed, and good orbit time. I know that you can't have the traditional radar dome on top, however, new aircraft don't actually need the traditional radar dome. Boeing is designing an E-373 aircraft and it is using new radar technology.

Could this technology be developed and employed in an EV-22 and give the Royal Navy a decent AWACs type craft?

And have it crash within seconds of takeoff?
Nope. No way.
Nope. No way.

And what would cause it to crash? I understand the V-22 has problems with being employed right now and being used as a transport craft. However I am looking into the idea of it being used in the future. This idea is a bare minimum of 10 years down the road and some of the V-22s biggest problems might be fixed by then.MKSheppard wrote:And have it crash within seconds of takeoff?

Seeing as the Osprey is quite possibily the most cursed aircraft project in history, I'd say no fucking way....I dont care if you wait 10 years or 50, its a shitty design and execution of a good idea.
Now given that the JSF has a number of cool datalink and C3 capabilities , an dedicated AWACS may not be entirely necessary for them to be effective.
