Declawing cats..

Post by Sektor31 »

Is it morally and ethically wrong to declaw a cat, meaning to remove the cat of its primary offensive/defensive maneuver?

No.

No.

Of course, I am not adverse to shooting one of the suckers if it walks on my vehicle.

Yes, I know, I am a heartless bastard.

No, not housecats. It is immoral to declaw an outside cat, however.

Yea, I agree with Durran Korr. You should esp. do it if you have small children, too.

Yes. I would 'denail' anyone who even tries to declaw my cats.

Though this position is probably due to my weakness for cats more than anything else.

If it's a pet cat no, of course not. They don't need the claws and the surgery if done properly is pretty painless for them and they recover quickly.

To keep them from clawing shit (or you) up when ever they feel like it.

I think it's OK to declaw violent housecats.

So they don't scratch your arms off. I've seen the scratches my friend has on his arm practically everyday at school, and they ain't pretty. He doesn't even provoke the thing, it just attacks at random. Had it no claws (which his parents refuse to have done) the cats reign of terror would be at an end.

A lot of people wouldn't bother with getting cats if they couldn't declaw them. Less declawing = more dead cats.

That would be the owner's fault. If treated properly, the cat uses its claws to help you rather than hurt you.

I should know, mine aren't declawed, and any bug that ventures in the house dies a shredded death.

If he still has that cat tell your friend to break is damn feline neck

I've been there, they treat the cat like royalty. He just has a mean streak in him. Aside, cats will tear up other shit around the house with their claws, too.

IF the cat's a bastard then yes. If it's a gorgeous one, like one of mine, then no, they need claws to climb things and kill pests.

There are sprays and stuff like that to keep cats away from shit. Some of them actually work.

Have a very nice day.

But declawing is 100% successful.

It's also traumatizing to the cat.

I think declawing cats is a horrible thing to do. But if you have to choose between declawing or putting the animal down, then it would be a necessary evil.
The most basic assumption about the world is that it does not contradict itself.

Scratched up arms are traumatizing to children. Children > cats.

A cat is the wrong pet if you have small children. It's as simple as that. I mean, if you had a pet alligator, and then de-tooth it because you have children in your house, would that be right?

OK, fine; there are still other factors to consider. The destruction of thousands of dollars worth of furniture all so the cat can avoid a couple weeks of pain; is it really worth it?
