Streamer Subathons Need to Die.

Maybe this just belongs in the venting thread, but whatever.

When a streamer would have a subathon, they would have a countdown timer that can be increased every time someone subscribes to their channel preventing them from ending the stream. They used to have to actually stay awake and keep the viewers entertained and it can last for multiple days. Now obviously, sleep deprivation is awful and the debilitating effects is probably not worth the amount of subs the average streamer gains in the end to do such a thing.

However, now it has apparently morphed into a form where the streamers will actually go to sleep, but at the same time allow the countdown clock to keep winding down which frankly defeats the purpose of having such a thing. Especially when they can decide when to wake up and come back to continue streaming.

There is literally no reason to participate in such an endeavor unless the streamer has other things going on like a goal count with rewards implemented.

Edit: Submitted too early. So this is all I gotta say about it.

I wonder how many of the subs gained from gimmicks like this remain subscribed for more than the first month or two.

Yea, it would be interesting to know, but I wouldn't be surprised if a decent amount hangs on. You'd have to manually turn off the auto-renew option so unless you do that right away, I'd imagine people forget and they get charged another month.
