I normally do not allow the process of travelling to and from my place of work or events which happen at work to annoy or stress me out, unless things are really tedious (such as constant interruptions which deviate my task from something very crucial with a tight deadline, or someone who makes me perform emergency evasive actions while driving).
However, if the usual calm that I enjoy in association with work is disrupted, then the following equipment should be quite adequate to help me to return to normality.
Has anyone else got any suggestions that can help people reduce stress at work?
May the Force be with you, and remain with you... always.
Music and lots of it. I have a portible MP3 player. And at work i've got all my mp3's loaded on to my computer. I'm not allowed to use the net at work, even though i spend half the day scratching my balls because i'm too efficient. But in all things i need music.
For other times theres what we Irish call craic. And no thats not a dislexics drug of choice.
On the way to school I try to find the heaviest music I have. The goal is to freak out those next to me.
"Oh no, oh yeah, tell me how can it be so fair
That we dying younger hiding from the police man over there
Just for breathing in the air they wanna leave me in the chair
Electric shocking body rocking beat streeting me to death"
- A.B. Original, Report to the Mist
"I think it’s the duty of the comedian to find out where the line is drawn and cross it deliberately."
- George Carlin
Umm, on my way to work I always listen to some kind of music pretty loud - and at work.. well, even when customers are total dicks it still doesn't stress me out - I don't let it get to me. It used to be when it got crazy or busy or something I'd kind of stress out a bit - but somewhere along the lines I conditioned myself (pretty much instantly) that I'll do my best and that's it, it won't stress me out at all, and since then it never has.
I guess I'm just lucky I can do that.
I've had quite a few times where (and not neccisarily on my way to work) I've had to make emergency evasive manuevers while driving because some people and how they drive... well, if they owned a gun they'd never use the safty and they'd constantly be pulling the trigger. These people shouldn't be allowed to drive - like that bitch that honked and flipped *me* off when *she* almost rear-ended *me*. Or those dumbfucks that you *know* they can see you, and they decide to make the turn anyway - almost into your driver side door, and the only reason you don't get creamed is cause *you* slam on your brakes (or accelerate, depeding on the situation) and move out of the way. Even in these situations - I don't even get an adrenaline rush - I just stay calm and do what I need to, don't ask me how either cause when I go back and think about some of them I really don't have a clue as to how I remained so calm - usually I just follow up with a hardy "FUCK YOU DUMBFUCK!" but after which I'm not stressed out at all.
Though we are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are,--
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.
