People of SD.net and sarcasm.

Post by Superman »

You know, I often wonder if it's possible to be born without any sense of sarcasm at all. For example, I once posted in a thread and mentioned that my fridge must be haunted because the light never turns off. The proof of this is that the light is always on when I open the door. The next thing I know, people are practically drawing the schematics of a refridgerator to show me that there is a switch for the light. People actually thought that I was serious... Tell me, could there be anyone in the universe that thinks the fridge is haunted because of the light thing?

And let me say something to all those who are called weird. Why do people say you're weird? Because you're weird!

Could there be anyone in the universe who thinks that deliberately killing babies isn't necessarily wrong and shouldn't even be called murder? Given some of the wackos that we've dealt with in the past, the reluctance to assume you're just screwing around is not that surprising.

Some people can not understand the concept of sarcasm, more often at certain times. They might pretend to not understand sarcasm to aggrivate someone, as has happened to me a few times, as well.

D. Wong, are you referring to abortion? Oh yes, this country would be much better of without it. The number one reason why this country (USA) is going down the tubes is that people are having kids, but their first concern is a threesome! It's like, "Honey, call the sitter, we're going to have an orgy! The most fucked up people are the ones that tend to breed the most.

When I'm in power, here's how I'm gonna put the country back on its feet. I'm going to put sterilizing agents in the following products: Sunny Delight, Mountain Dew, and Thick-Crust Pizza. Only the tardiest of the tards like the thick crust.

Here's something that I've found to be pretty accurate: Every deviancy, every deficiency, every delusion one can imagine is possessed by some member of H. Sapiens.

No, I'm talking about babies, not half-formed fetuses. I'm talking about Jonathan Boyd and his arguments defending Biblical infanticide, eg- "killing every first-born male child in Egypt"

Not to be crude, but there is an :P for the specific use of saying, "hey, I am joking". I took me a while to add them in there myself and I have been taken serious when I was joking before I started using the :P .

Also, you've seen some of the characters and one hit wonders that have passed through here, sarcasm is usually best after one is found not to be a fucktard. :P (see, it works 8) )
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong

But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

I find there is probably some sort of English gene which makes people sarcastic.

Remember that people can't hear your tone of voice or see your body actions so it is very easy to misunderstand in text. The use of emoticions helps.

"I really love scat :P "

That might seem quite serious if not for the :p and the fridge statement might seem serious to others also.

Oh of course, anything I read, especially off the Internet, must be true. I mean, who says it isn't?

Considering all the nutcases we have had here........

Anyway, most of what gets talked about ( like ST and SW) starts with the assumption that it could be possible.
