Dual sound card question

Post by Next of Kin »

I've just installed an Audiophile 2496 card in my system along with my Ensoniq pci sound card. I have speakers connected to both. How can I get playback from both of them simultaneously? I can choose to have output from one device or the other but I want both. Is this possible? (Xp is my os)

I don't think so. Your BIOS only lets you specify one output device. I'd recommend the Audiophile.

It has nothing to do with the BIOS - it couldn't care less about sound cards.

As for getting simultaneous sound output from both cards, I'll look around on the 'net, but I don't think it can be done without professional software and often requires proper driver support.

EDIT: Most applications will only write to the primary sound buffer, so no go here. You'd have to configure applications that allow it to use specific cards (e.g. Winamp) with the other being using the primary card.
