Dominion War Casualties

How many combat casualties do you think that all of the sides took in the Dominion War?

That depends on how big you think the fleets were to start

I think the best website stats for that I have seen are the DITL.ORG or here.

Personally, I'd love to see an offical Star Trek printed book come out with all the info like this

What ever they took, I doubt it was something very major for them on the longterm side. Their building and "recruiting" capabilities are just far more vast than the Alpha Quadrant powers ones. They can afford the losses they took.

For fleet crew losses starfleet causlties should run well over a millon considering the thousands of ships lost. Losses for the other sides would also be around that. The figures at DITL are probobly as accurate as one can get

Ground combat causlties are the tricky part. If the episode where a romulan commander was confident that 1000 soldiers could conquer an entire planet is an indication then causlities from planetside warfare should be also be no more than the losses the fleets took. However in a more realistic scenario there were some actual fighting on the ground and despite the terrible tactics used the sheer number of engagements that took place on so many planets would put the death toll in to tens of millions. If indiscriminate orbital bombardment was used the figure could be much higher

Civilian causulties could be quite high, well into the billions if orbital bombardments were used. Since DS9 never told us how many planets were bombarded no clear figure could be derived. However even without figures of deaths caused by bombardment civilian causalties could be quite high considering the brutal, inhuman tactics used by the dominion. the cardassians and to some extent the klingons

Simplest explanation, shipboard disruptors, like shipboard phasers, can be set to wide area stun setting. This combined with the likley small force of ground troops they would be facing (afterall, large armies dirtside are just begging to be orbital striked) and the largely pacificst nature of the Vulcan peoples would likely mean that 1000 soldiers, if they are spec ops level, could very well hold the major population centers via transporters and threat of orbital bombardment by the warbirds that would take up station over Vulcan.

Agreed.

IIRC, they claimed that it would take hundreds of billions of casualties to make the Federation surrender. It was the episode with the 4 super geniouses that were slightly nutters in their personal skills.

I think, midway through Season 7 of DS9, Damar makes reference to 7 million Cardassian dead (in 'The Changing Face of Evil', I think). In that same episode, the Klingons slaughter 500'000 Cardassians in one go (some kind of planetary attack or something). At that point, I can only imagine that Federation and Klingon casualties were about the same, that the Romulans weren't far behind, and the fanatical and replacable Jem'Hadar probably topped the list.

Well, in the episode where Damar begins his defection from the Dominion, he states that so far up to that point in the war, there had been 7 million Cardassian military casualties. This of course, because of their betrayal of the Dominion at the end of the war ended up inflating the figure upwards of 800 million from what Bashir said in the Command Center when he beamed down after the battle was over.

I have an obscure RPG book that details the Dominion war and all of its major battles (fairly indepth information, including information for the systems they were fought in, like Vulcan, Chin'toka, and others). It states that the civilian casualties for Betazed alone (which was conquered fairly early in the war) was around 75 million. It also goes on to state that from the Breen attack on Earth, which just didn't affect San Francisco, the casualties were 25 million (New York, Paris, Beijing, and other major cities were hit). This is of course not canon, but hey, its at least some figures. And from these figures it would seem like the Federation alone suffered at least 100 million casualties during the war. I wouldn't be surprised if it went upwards of a couple hundred million (they were going to stomach 900 BILLION casualties before they thought about surrendering) so its not out of the question.
