I have a confession, i actually find the Enterprise-E to be ugly as shit, The Enterprise D was more curvy, graceful, futuristic and spacious than the Enterprise-E, . The Bridge looks to damn contemporary. It's more like the high tech security offices of the Capitol Records Building. Bridges of some Voyager Episode ships were more futuristic. Promethius, the Dauntless, and the Equinox. Some of the older ships in the first five ST movies looked more futiristic Like the E-A or the Excelsior. The Engineering looks to damned cramped. The E-E is too damn cramped. The Exterior may have it right, but the interior is messed up.

It's nacelles have a retrograde look, also.
It looks more like a movie era ship rather than a Galaxy class successor.

So the luxury class spaceliner was better than a Sovergein class battlecruiser ? Well I too like the Galaxy class since it has a furturistic look, but when compared with the Sovergein it looks plain stupid. The interiors of a Sovergein resemble a real combat starship not a five star hotel like the Galaxy class. It is only natural that a military starship would be designed for combat not looks for it is after all not a tourist attraction.

The movie Enterprise-A was however the best star trek ship in my opinion. I loved the final battle scene in ST6 when the Enterprise was taking torpedo after torpedo and yet was holding herself quite admirebly. There were no exploding consoles on the bridge and the engineering crew were actualy wearing protective gear (makes sense considering the volatile nature of the engineering with all those high powered conduits around, also reminds me of the unfortunate ensign who got burned in "Insurrection" due lack protective clothing)

Voygers bridge looked looked better than the Enterprise-D one but unfortunately the people who ran that bridge made it look stupid. The Equinox was my favorite ship in the entire voyger show (yes I have taken the pain to watch most voyger episodes). Captain Ransom was far better than Janeway. He survived the delta quadrant with a 150 meter long ship that has just one torpedoe launcher and a warpcore so weak it can not go faster than warp 8. His adventures would have made a far better show than voyger.

Just one thing, the Enterprise was never intended as a military vessel, its a peaceful exploration vessel. It has weapons for defense. E-E looks plain messed up.

Yes there were, watch Star Trek 6 and one of the consoles actually exploded. It was below Uhura's feet.

Shiid, Voyagers bridge was futuristic but was no way better looking than the E-D bridge, the intrepid was a short range science/exploration vessel. It wasn't intended as a long-range vessel like E-D was.

Actually i think Voyager could have been better if it was like the episode "The void"

I rather like the Enterprise A's bridge, all the blue and green, it looks like they're not just randomly hitting buttons.

Then again, the Ent-E looks badass.

Neither the Galaxy or Sovereign has a militarily sound design, really.
And with it's elevated main phaser array(bank?), the Galaxy has a clearer field of fire.

In terms of aesthetics, I prefer the Galaxy class to the Sovereign, the Sovereign has the curves, but the Galaxy has the majesty and all that. The Sovereign class is more similar to the faster strike ships such as the Akira than the lumbering heavy cruiser that is the Galaxy, I mean, that sweeping high speed intro for the Enterprise at the FC Borg Battle? If the Galaxy class had tried that, it would probably have snapped in half ...

In terms of the Bridge, I like the command chair and tactical station on the Galaxy, but the Excelsior bridge is much prettier, again, maybe it is just all the light colours and the blue and green displays, it just looks more futuristic than all that brown on the Galaxy.

And I think the original Excelsior and the Enterprise Refit/A are my favourites. Sweeping lines, clean white hulls and crisp paintjobs...

[homer style] Mmmmm, torpedo through saucer section, mmmm [/homer style]

I forgot who said it but I agree with the statement that the Galaxy class is the cadillac and the Sovereign class is the porsche. The Ent-E looks like it is going warp speed sitting still, but I love the Galaxy class too, and I have to credit DS9 with bolstering that with the war mod Galaxy becuase it is one tough ship.

I never really liked the Galaxy-class, I always found its saucer section to be somewhat oversized.

Personaly I would use a Sovereign type bridge on the Galaxy-X. You got a pure combat ship there.

Agreed, it may actually be the only ship in trek history that looks better when they have separated and left the dish behind.

I think longer nacelles on the -D would have offset a lot of my objections to it, probably resulting in something that looked more like the -C (which I think is where Probert said he really wanted to go with it, though Sternbach messed with that design a bit when they did it for Yesterday's E) ... as is, I just hate most all exterior shots in NextGen -- except for the going away shot on the opening titles and a few manuevering shots from yr 3, it just doesn't speak to me.

But I find the original and the refit to be just wonderful, even decades later.

The E-E has got problems (the hull plating look and the color treatment and a lack of visual elegance IMO), but it is still a more worthy successor than the -D ... then again, the way the -D looked (inside & out) jives with how I think of NextGen ... sort of soft and unmemorable.

My astetic opinion...

Excelsior> Constitution Refit> Reliant (I forget the class name)> Everything else.

Really, if you wanted to improve the, for want of a better term, "lack of balance" in the Galaxy's appearance, I think merely lengthening the nacelle struts, and removing that constructional nightmare of a 90deg. bend would do the trick. More like the refit Connie, less like whatever it is we got. Maybe add a backwards sweep to them, as well.

I think that the bridge that the Ent-D had in "Yesterdays Enterprise" is better that the normal Ent-D bridge setup. But I too like the sovie bridge, and pretty much any bridge where the captains chair is centered and sits high.

You remember the changes the E-D bridge went through in Generations? That was actualy a very good bridge for a Galaxy class. What pisses me off is no one seems to acknowledge that is supossed to be the evolved bridge for the GCS. Games keep putting the TNG series bridge in and no one else bothers with the upgraded version for those bridge drawings.

They added stations on the left and right as you can see. Worf finaly sits down and there is a station spot to both sides of Worf.

Here is the TNG era for comparison.

The upgraded 1st Enterprise (ST:TMP) was the best looking.

Yep.
The Enterprise from Star Trek I-VI was the best.

It looks like the alternate E-D bridge in "Yesterday's Enterprise".

Yes I like that one very much. After all you get to keep the corinthian leather :D

Actually i prefer the bridge of the Defiant class. I am biased because I love the Defiant class full stop. However it's also for a pratical reason. It was the 1st and only bridge I ever saw some kind of restraints for the crew.

Never saw TMP, with its little foldover school desk looking thingies? (or the outtakes from NEMESIS for that matter)

I noticed that yesterday about the Saucer not seeming to fit with the rest of the ship, I think a smaller saucer would of made the E-D look a lot better. I hate the Soveriegn-class, I just don't like how it looks for UFP flagship. My two favorites are the Nova(equinox from VOY, unfortunately its a weak science ship) and the Defiant.

I think that the E-E is a cooler ship than the E-D, but the E-D REPRESENTS TNG in a way that the Sovereign never will.

In comparison with other ships, I agree that they've designed better ones than the E-D and the E-E, but I have no real qualms with either ship.
