The minority

Post by Rye »

I just got to thinking something whilst reading the gay thread...

..we always hear that it's the minority of a group that exhibit the fundie traits, no matter the group, as we all know people can like star wars, babylon 5, star trek, star gate and so on, without going all stupid about it. PEople have preferences and are still amiable, and yet the old addage of " a few bad apples" comes out in force to annoy the hell out of everyone else.

This applies to pretty much everything, be it religion, preference in sport, sports team, you name it.

So what i wondered is this: if it's a minority that causes the problems for a majority, is it always the same people, i.e. one small group of individuals that are really opinionated about everything, or does pretty much everyone feel fundie-ish about one particular subject, and will take up arms, walls of ignorance or what have you, then apply it to their chosen belief?

Anyone know? Any thoughts?

I think that if a person is backed into a corner then he/she will show the type of attitude you describe no matter who he/she is.

But some people consider a different POV provocation enough.

Al Sharpton, he causes about fifty precent of the problems for the mahogany people's cause to get what they would view as truly equal rights on a whole.

We alll belong to the minority on something. Thinkabout it, you can not possible be a duplicate of everyone else. You will have disagreements on many issues and in some of those disagreements you are going to be the minority.

It's not just a matter of being in the minority, though. I'm in the minority on the issue of drug legalization, but I've seen the facts and the data and I'm convinced I'm right, and there's a number of very smart people who agree with me. It's a matter of being in a minority and being horribly unreasonable about it--Red Sox fans who insist their team is the best in baseball every single year come to mind here. Most people probably do have an issue like that, though at the moment I can't think of mind (maybe my belief that the Eagles Super Bowl victory is just around the corner qualifies).
