Most "alternative lifestyle" or scene or whatevers like Punks, Goths, etc, are the most unaccepting people I know. They whine when you don't share their generalizing, dumbed-down ideology and think that the amount of time and effort they spend trying to make themselves true whatevers and calling everyone else a whatever poseur, is a lot bigger deal than people spending money on shirts. The preppie, at least, knows what they want.

And the whole generalizing and "I hate capitalism/money/working/anything" stuff is retarded. Punks at my school wear boots to symbolize fighting for the working class and then can't get a job because of their blue mohawks or whatever the latest hairfuck it is.

Say what you want about us alternative lifestyle folks, but we're just trying to stand out in a crowd. At least that applies to me.

No, there were kids at my high school who looked exactly like that. Any time someone's clothes are smarter than they are spells trouble.

Some go to such enormous lengths to do so, they put enormous amounts of time and energy for appearances--far more than preppies do.

Hmmm.. my hair is short and neatly parted to one side. Most people encourage me to dress up a little.. but I enjoy t-shirts and jeans when I'm on campus.

I don't have anything against "wanting to stand out" or "questioning the system", but when the way you achieve that is by blending in to the crowd of "nonconformists" and unquestioningly buying the "alternative" viewpoint, there's a problem.

As for preppies, fuck 'em. I hate rich kids. It's irrational and selfish, but there it is.
In fact, I hate rich suburbanites in general. Whenever I'm in Los Gatos, Saratoga, or the Los Altos Hills (upper-class areas in these parts), I feel like punching everybody. I think it's because they pretend they're the only people that exist. I dunno.
