You have competent villians, heroes who aren't all squeaky clean, and
of course Samuel L Jackson as Nick Fury

I really like what they've done in making the Ultimates.
Janet Van Dyne: The Wasp is a mutant (in hiding of sorts) but she's also a very intelligent scientist.
Thor: I like his look and I like what they've done with his powers/godhood. He was fucking the Hulk up with his hammer. Considering the magic that is supposed to be on that thing it should have been doing the same thing in the regular Marvel Universe.
Cap: I like that he's characterized better. He wa never realistic as some uber goody two shoes. He wasn't skilled enough or powerful enough to be so kind and generous to his enemies. The Ultimate verison makes more sense in that he is a good guy but he's more believable as a pragmatic soldier. I also like that his abilities seem to be a bit higher than the standard version. I could never understand how even a suped-up olympic athlete could survive all the stuff he was supposed to have survived.
I also liked how he took on Henry Pym after he nearly killed Jan.
Iron Man: Tony Stark is an interesting character but I really like what they've done with his armor and the way he kind of inserts himself into it.
Nick Fury: Even though the character says he'd want Sam Jackson to play the movie version of him I always think he looks more like Avery Brooks.
Henry Pym: They've already dones some interesting things with him on the character front. Being treated for depression, nearly killing his wife.
I haven't seen much of the other characters that have been added to the team since I only get the book in TPB form. I did like Hawkeye's cockiness in the "Ultimate War" but his costume looks so Youngblood.
