Post by Darth Yoshi »

This is going to be interesting...

Eternal Darkness TV and movie will probably show up in the future.

Eternal what? Never heard of it.
If Religion and Politics were characters on a soap opera, Religion would be the one that goes insane with jealousy over Politics' intimate relationship with Reality, and secretly murder Politics in the night, skin the corpse, and run around its apartment wearing the skin like a cape shouting "My votes now! All votes for me! Wheeee!" -- Lagmonster

Surely you jest, either that or you've never had the pleasure of playing one of the best games of the Gamecube (of any console, as far as I'm concerned). For those who don't know, Eternal Darkness is a game designed as a psychological thriller (aka "scary mind fuck"), and succeed rather well...

Now I want to know who plays Alexandra and Ellia ASAP!

I have my doubts on wiether they'll be able to replicate the feeling you get when you play this game. Partly because the thrill you get is from moving around, hesitating to open that door because your sanity is low. Secondly because game to movie never works out. Ever. At all. Usually its glaringly bad, defaming characters and stories close to you.

If this comes to pass, unless Sylicon Knights has a strong testicle-vise of a creative consultant position, expect the name Rovias(sp?), maybe a Mantion, no magic from any of the "good guys", not nearly as violent, no where near the disregard for characters as in the game. Movie would be the best route for us gamers in reality, they'll have to cut a lot, but I could see them being able to be fairly true to the story with a movie. Ofcourse a miniseries would be the best, each episode representing the tale of a different Rovias, but if it becomes popular, and unless its on something like Scifi(MAYBE, IIRC SG1 was a miniseries that was extended to a full series) it'll be raped and extended poorly like Dark Angel was.

Have to ask...is it just ME, or does the whole Eternal Darkness game just REEK of Cthulhu mythos? Even down to the deep, squiggly GOO's and other random things.
Note: I'm semi-retired from the board, so if you need something, please be patient.

I don't know jack-all about the Cthulhu mythos, so I can't comment much on that...

... Just so fun to run around and set fire to mummy zombies...

EDIT: You're probably right though, if some ancient alien deities battling each other throughout the myst of time with agents is anything like the Cthulhu mythos...

That's not saying much.
(of any console, as far as I'm concerned).
I believe River City Ransom earned this honor back in the 80's.

Then what would be saying much? Hmmm?

If you don't factor in PS1 games and multireleases, PS2 is not that far ahead of Gamecube when it comes to great games(although I prefer a lot of GCN games over PS2 games), but the PS2 was out first(by a while IIRC). X-Box being the clear loser game wise.

Eternal Darkness kicks the shit out of Resident Evil and it's ilk, I'll tell you that much. After playing it, trying out Resident Evil (on Gamecube) just sucked. Like, I don't remember the control system for RE being so horrific, but after finishing Eternal Darkness three times (it's THAT fun) Resident Evil is retarded by comparison.

It's the lack of analog controls. Although I haven't played it myself, Resident Evil for the N64 is suppose to be the only one of the series so far which actually employs full analog controls.
