When we hear of his past, he seems to act like Kirk, shoot first and screw the conquences. But in TNG, he seems to act like a peacelover and not a man of action.

Was there some exerience after the Stargazer that nudered him? And was he in the Fed/Card War?

No, I mean the one before the first season of TNG.

I think the change in him came when he was still quite young.
After a bar fight with 3 Nausicans, he was stabbed in the heart and needed an artifical heart from then on. Perhaps after that, he learned to think first and fight second.

Well he mentions engaging the Cardassians when he was captain of the Stargazer.

I think there is a lot more to that part of the Federation's history than we know, and much of it seems responsible for the change from TOS to hippy/peace loving TNG. The whole time period seems to point to dark ages for the Federation, and Picard would have participated in some of it. I would love to see a well done series or a few movies on this very turbulent time.

I want to know what happened that transformed him into Captain Action Hero in the movies.

But this incident was before the Stargazer. Something obviously made him a wuss AFTER that incident. Maybe it was the responsibility of command of the Fed "flagship".

So? One man can handle responsibility and still be a man. That doesn't mean another can do so as well.

Exmaples? And according to who exactly?

Why would Picard handle stress the exact same way, or better, then Kirk? Or vice a versa, they are two different people after all.

Maybe for some people it takes a while for the UFP indoctrination to set in.

Yea and he punched his brother in the face

I would say he handled being kidnapped, mutilated, forced to kill thousands of his own kind, and almost ruining his homeworld pretty well.

But it sure as hell had nothing to do with his long jump and 500meter dash records.
