A battle in favor of Starfleet
In a previous thread, Lord Poe brought up the idea that we've been running by the numbers for some time now. I am inclined to agree.
In responce to this, I am commissioning a thread to find out how Starfleet could win in a battle with the Empire. This may take months and more threads, but it is worth a shot. There won't be any "one fighter vs. the entire fleet" ideas, but good solid cruiser vs. cruiser battles. There must be atleast one way for a SF ship to win without outside aid or spacial anolomies.
I would make this a sticky, but this may get out of hand.

I am sewrious. There must be other factors that can tip a battle in SF favor. There are always possibilities that can be exploited. I personally think that there is at least one one time shot that could be used. I am not talking about fleet engagements, but just one on one comabt between ships.

Then you must tilt it to the point where it isn't 'cruiser vs cruiser', but 'Fighter/patrolboat vs cruiser'. And you don't let the Wars fighter have heavy warheads. Because that is how bad the disparity is. The Slave I outguns the Enterprise-D, while being a fraction of the size.Admiral Johnason wrote:I am sewrious. I said a cruiser v. cruiser battle. I want to find a way for at least a fluke victory relying only of the ship and her crew.jegs2 wrote:A TIE fighter vs. a Galaxy-class Feddie ship?Admiral Johnason wrote:I am sewrious. The fed ship flashes a pattern of lights at the Imps bridge, calculated to induce seizures in susceptible people(11% IIRC). Members of the navigation crew on the Imp ship go spastic, causing the ship to blind-jump into hyperspace, likely smashing into something.
Use the god-awful 'spatial warp' generated through the deflector dish on the Delta Flyer on Voyager by Q's son to teleport the incoming fire to a point where it will then hit the Imp ship. If Turbolaser bolts can not be transferred by this method, use it to shift the Imp vessel itself into a nearby star. If the technique can not be applied to ships other than the one with the generating deflector dish, have shuttles use the technique to materialise inside the Imp ship and self-destruct.

Hmm. One runabout vs. Death Star.
The Feds get that weapon from "Conundrum" that causes selective amnesia and rewrites computer files. Then they zap the Death Star and make them think they are actually the Rebels' last hope. The Death Star goes to Coruscant and forces a surrender.
Oh, and the runabout fires a torpedo down the exhaust shaft afterwards, because the Feds think weapons of mass mass mass destruction are immoral and shouldn't be used. Anymore.

Ya think?Admiral Johnason wrote:In a previous thread, Lord Poe brought up the idea that we've been running by the numbers for some time now. I am inclined to agree.
Of course there is. On the other hand, it's not mathematically likely, let alone plausible.Admiral Johnason wrote:In responce to this, I am commissioning a thread to find out how Starfleet could win in a battle with the Empire. WTF? You were going to make this thing a sticky? What for? It's not as if there's anything to debate, after all.Admiral Johnason wrote:I would make this a sticky, but this may get out of hand.

A lone Star Destroyer is patrolling space on the edge of Federation space. The crew is currently off guard, smothered in confidence over their last engagement with a fleet of Trek ships. Their shields are not up.
A cloaked Galaxy class starship approaches, finding the ISD and her crew unwary, with themselves undetected. Having sufficent data available, they quickly decloak and fire an entire barrage at a specific point on the ISD (which hasn't raised it's shields). The barrage clears enough armor out of the way leaving a path for a transporter beam directly to the power generator for the ISD. They beam over the highest possible yield torpedo available to starfleet, with a five second timer. Then they warp the hell outta there. ISD raises shields, then goes out with a major bang when the megaton yield torpedo detonates right next to their primary reactor.

Unless someone can find a reason, I'm in agreement with GAT.
(and for those wondering...it's this statement)
This thread is pretty much spam.
