Read I, Jedi. Its damn entertaining, but when Corran is running around on that planet being the dark and mysterious Jedi, I couldn't help but get a definite "Terror of the Night" vibe from him.

Anyone else thing he was a "Dark Knight"?

I, Jedi was crap. First of all, Mochael Stackpole lost what little credibility he had left with me by doing what is basically a spin-off of a shitty KJA trilogy, and also helped to rewrite it partially by "Corranizing" the fight with Exar Kun.

Corran Horn sucks and always will suck.

On the contrary, Stackpole took a shitty triology and made something good out of it.

I disagree. Stackpole is a weak writer. He's written a few works that are okay, but he always follows it up with an enormously boring, lackluster book. I, Jedi was one of those. It was maybe 50 pages of information jam-packed into 600.

Best part was Corran getting the shit kicked out of him by Exar Kun, definately. Also that was one of the few times when Mara didn't annoy the fuck out of me, but that role was filled in by Corran and his preachy ways. Ah well.

I Jedi was just more of Stackpole trying to prove Corran is better than Luke. He even writes in Corran beating Luke in a duel.

Right. Just more of "Corran and Isard and all my other creations" are far superior to anyone else's.

One of the big problems with the initial Zahn, Stackpole, and Anderson writing is they acted like they owned their character and one-up-ed another all the time. Bigger a problem with Zahn and Stackpole though.

Not to seem like an idiot, but what exactly do you mean by "one-up-ing"??

I actually liked the Luke and Corran disagreements... it gave more depth than just having everyone get along happily.

I'll join the minority and say i enjoyed it. Reading a Star Wars book in the first person was very entertaining, and also sticking with one person was great. Whenever i read the others, i keep reading faster to skip over the boring bits.

Its one thing to have Corran disagree with KLuke(good) but to have Corran ?best Luke? Son of Vader? Savior of the Galaxy?

Fuck Stackpole with a Telephonepole, Corran horn is not only a preachy concieted piece of shit but he isn't entertaining to read about either. Corran ruined the Rogue Squadron series, fortunately Allston came in with Wraith Squadron and made something good out of the XWing series.

Isard's Revenge though, maybe, just maybe he could have come up with a new character? NO IT WAS A CLONE!!!!!!! And NOw tHerE ARE LOTS OF CLONEs WOW YOU NEVer THOUGHT OF CLONEs DID YOU!

From what I've heard, Corran Horn was pretty much just a self-insertion for Stackpole...

That's pretty pathetic if you think about it.

This would explain the horrible and pathetic ending to the Dark Tide Duology. And it would also explain why an asshole like Corran Horn somehow has women throwing themselves at him, because the author has a pen in one hand and his nuts in the other!

Seriously, I think Im going to swear to myself to never read Stackpole again.

(looks at list)

lets see, Berman, Braga, Anderson, ok lets add in Stackpole.....ok finished.

EDIT:

Didn't he plead with the people that bought the Rogue Squadron novels to buy his non SW stuff? It was sad.

I never knew Corran was a "Mary Sue". It explains a lot. I still say Jedi and the X-wing books are pretty entertaining. What happened in Isard's Revenge? I don't recall.

Well, Stackpole did some photo shoots to create the pictures of Horn for the Decipher SW CCG. Zahn did the same thing for Karrde.

Zahn looks nothing like Karrde AFAICT. I don't know what Stackpole looks like, so I can't judge him.

Either way, the character of Corran Horn is increbibly stupid. Its just Stackpole trying to one-up everyone else with a fucking Jedi that can best Luke. Yeah right. Horn sucks so much that Stackpole and Stackpole alone is the only author that'll touch him IIRC.

It's a pitty that nobody decided to whack Horn during the New Jedi Order. It probably could have turned one of the worst books into the best in the series. ;)

I haven't even read anything with him in it, and the bastard still pisses me off. Stackpole broke one of the rules of basic fan fiction: don't write self-insertion, because it's lame and people can spot it damn easily.
