Babtech vs B5tech

Post by Rathark »

For those of you who are in the know, which website has the most sensible, reliable figures?

http://www.b5tech.com

http://www.babtech-onthe.net

BTW, the latter has a few broken links, namely for the EA and Vorlon sections; which would inevitably make comparisons over a few vital details rather difficult.

Or is there a superior third option?

Related to all this: how reliable are the scaling figures by Tim Earls?

I'd guess it's the middle ground

Bab-Tech seems to be lower End

while B5Tech are really highend stuff.

That's the impression I get anyway. I'm not sure how accurate either of them are.

By the way, a lot of material in B5Tech is fanfic. New comer should be aware of that

I found B5Tech first and then BabTech. Sean(?) petty much explained to me that he's major gripes with B5Tech is it's assumptions. Me I am all right with it. I mean SW still woops it's ass and that is all I need.

Babtech is more reliable. Its figures are far better, for what it has. B5tech has some really ludicrous figures that really don't make any sense, once you think about them.

Just because SW still wins does not mean that figures are acceptable. They still must be accurate.

Which one of these places doesn't argue that the thermal properties of metal are related to its 'strength?' That's the one to take seriously.

The site that does make the thermal=strength error overstates its weapons calcs by a factor of 20....

Yes, but only if you cared. Personally I love using B5tech gestimates, because even when using the highest levels of power, B5 still looses.

That would make Babtech the more accurate site.

I agree 100% with neither site. However, I agree with babtech much much much more often. However, I do disagree with it at some key points, such as whether or not the 500 MT nuke killed a Shadow Battle Crab

Some of b5 tech's calcs just want to make me puke considering the several order of magnitude that they throw around. And while I do agree with B5tech that the Battle Crab in ITF survived the nuke, I don't believe that it absorbed as much energy as their scaling figures state.

What was their final result for the output of the Victory cruiser again? Ah yes, 1.7 teratons!

As a general rule, I tend to anaylyze each seperate calc on each site independant of the site itself. That way, I don't get stuck into a "it's from insert site here so it sucks" mentality.
