Strangest fuckingest damn thing...

Well residents of SD.net, this is the weirdest computer problem I've ever had. For the last month or so, whenever I tried to log onto the net from my home computer, up pops a screen saying 'Bubbles and Britches'. I'm not joking. Then the screen goes blank and the computer crashes. (It's a Dell running Windows XP Pro, and the connection is DSL, if that helps any.)
I checked every connection, hired a pair of computer technicians from work to check it out, and everything was, according to them, fine. After that, I redid the hardrive several times, but the same thing happened. Then just earlier today when I tried to log on, everything went smooth. :wtf:
Was this a virus or some sort of malicious, maligant Microsoft-caused bug? Of course this little bug has basically cut me off from all internet access except from work, and I have nary little time to surf at work right now. Has anyone *ever* run into something like this?

Is it a BSOD screen (like thos nice little "Fatal Errors") or another one?

My school had something like that. A BSOD popped up on start-up (though since it was connected to a network might've been the act of hooking into the network, I'm not sure) that said something to the effect of "There are no pages lefted" in the title text and "It is too deep" in the explanation area, and the whole thing froze. Don't know if it's related or not, but nothing my school tried seemed able to fix it, and it decided to go on only a few of the networked computers, and only popped up randomly (AFAIK anyway).

Well, before the error message came the screen would turn black and the words would pop up, then the computer would show the "fatal error' box and then crash or freeze. It's quite weird.

Only thing I can really think of is upgrade your virus scanner, scan for stuff and hope it finds it.

Otherwise, there's always the "extreme" option of formatting the damn thing and hoping that'll kill it.

I have never, ever, ever seen or heard of something like this before. "It's too deep" in the explanation area?!! :wtf: :shock:

You got me on this one. If it's a virus or a worm, well then fdisk everything and start over, installing a windows while not being connected to the net at all.

First, disable the Windows Messenger service, you won't need it. It's in Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services.

Secondly, go get HijackThis! and Spybot Search and Destroy. Post the HijackThis log here, someone will interpret it for you. Run Spybot and have it clean out your box.
