Did you go to summer camp?
Just out of curiostity (based on a discussion I was having with friends) did you go to summer camp when you were younger? And if so which one?

I went to a variety. Boy Scouts, mostly (made 97 and 2001 National Jambos, baby!)...last real Summer Camp I did was at Oak Ridge Military Academy for three weeks.
Unless you want to count my NROTC Orientation, anyway.

Yes, I've gone to track camp for all of my high school summers and this year went as a jr. counselor. Here is a pic of me there that I've posted at art and photos of me at camp a while back.

Gotta love those Lake Bradach(sp?) Virginian girls . The best part is that they are crazy for all things Midwood. I just don't like the one in the red tank top in a personal level that much since she's spoiled. Example, I was dancing with her and she was pushing on me because she wanted to go on the floor but my legs were aching from all the running so I didn't so she just stopped dancing with me because of that mid-song. Matter of fact, I've asked other people about it and nobody finished a whole song with her. Other than her being a lil spoiled they were all greatStraha wrote:LUCKY BASTARD WITH ALL THOSE GIRLS! Camp Cowen. AKA West Virginia American Baptist Camp.
It was fun... something you looked forward to every year. Great spot for it, beside the Gauley River, with the cabins set on the hillside amidst the mountain laurel thickets. The hillside was narrow, flat land was just the right size for a football/baseball field at one end of the valley (150yds?), narrowing to about 30yds at the narrowest.
Lots of huge boulders there from landslides (many claimed they were left from glaciers), and the camp's builders turned two clumps of boulders into places of worship. One, a huge vertical boulder with flat horizonal boulders layered facing it became the Vespers area, with the vertical boulder the backdrop for the altar. The other grouping had left a 20' opening in the center, so it became the Bonfire area.
I still remember how fun it was, seeing the sky between the mountains, the stars so bright the MilkyWay explained its name brilliantly. The mountains seemed to close in around you, with owls and nighthawks and all the other nighttime souns seeming so much louder, up until the point one of the counselors would yell:
ATTITUDE CHECK!
PRAISE THE LORD
PRAISE THE LORD
PRAISE THE LORD
PRAISE THE LORD
PRAISE THE LORD
PRAISE THE LORD
Ya gotta love mountains that are close enough to blounce the echoes between them for minutes at a time..
yeah, I loved Camp Cowen... pity you have to stop going when you turn 17

I always wanted to go to sleepaway summer camp, but at first I wasn't allowed, then I never decided to go. Too bad, I missed out on a lot, it seems

No. I had friends and shit to do at home, why would I want to go to some dumbass woods? Consequently, none of those summer camp movies or tv shows ever appealed to me. With the notable exception of Addams Family Values.
And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'

Re: Did you go to summer camp?
I went to some day camps, never wanted to go to one where I slept there. I remember my mom got mad at one of the counselors there when she kept lecturing me about walking away from the pool without telling someone, I hated that camp, they tore it down. I prefer something else to do, like going to a convention, hotels I never mind.Straha wrote:Just out of curiostity (based on a discussion I was having with friends) did you go to summer camp when you were younger? Went to some camp out in the boonies where we did some rafting and canoeing in the lake & river. Don't remember much except we had a cute counsellor named Aphrodite. Toga night was so fitting considering her name.
aerius: I'll vote for you if you sleep with me.
Lusankya: Deal!
Say, do you want it to be a threesome with your wife? Or a foursome with your wife and sister-in-law? I'm up for either.

Anyone ever have summer camp where after lights out someone comes in dressed as Jason? Maybe Kane Hodder. There's this horror them park called Spooky world at Gillette Stadium here in Massachusetts (where the Patriots play) Robert Englund and Kane Hodder make annual visits unless they can't.

Hmm...now that I think of it Shooting Sports Camp might not really be considered 'summer camp', it only lasted 3 days and 2 nights. But, my family owns 70 acres or so spread out in two plots in two counties in TN, so, I have plenty of places to go to be outside, and my house is in the middle of the woods anyways.
