New Final Fantasy 7 Exposed: Advent Children
Taken from IGN.com:
September 25, 2003 - In an odd twist, all those rumors of a Final Fantasy VII sequel from Square Enix have proven true. Is it for the PS2? Is it for the PSP? Is it for the Atari 2600?
No, no and (thinking...) definitely no.
The upcoming issue of Japan's Jump Magazine, a popular comic magazine that every now and then contains exclusive world-reaching videogame announcements, contains first information and pictures from Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. This new product isn't a game -- it's a direct-to-DVD computer graphics movie.
As the name may imply, FFVII: Advent Children is a successor to the FFVII storyline. While few solid details have been revealed, it's known that the story takes place two years after the events of FFVII (note: we're not sure which "end" is being referred to -- the end of the events involving Cloud and his silent commrades, or the end involving the Red XIII dude). Something happens to disturb the peace that was returned at the end of FFVII. Images revealed from the DVD seem to show Cloud and Sephiroth, but that's about it.
A Japanese release is scheduled for 2004. No word yet from Square Enix regarding a possible stateside release of the product. The images included in this article's media page were scanned by some folks in Japan who have access to the issue of Jump ahead of time.
Square Enix will be unveiling more information on their upcoming products tomorrow. Stay tuned for what could be more details on this DVD.

The only announced part is a movie, but there have been rumours going around that the movie opens up a whole new plot thread which will be explored in a future game, most likely one for the Sony PSP.lux wrote:I'm confused... someone says it's a Movie, or short Movie, or whatever.
Then someone else tells him it's a sequel game, somewhere else I read it's the remake of 7 PLUS a sequel..
What's the truth? It's probably just a movie isn't it.

PSP is Sony's attempt to horn in on the Nintendo GBA market.
Literally a portable Playstation.

It's also got media playback facilities, the universal media disc format that it uses can store a full movie in watchable quality, it can do mp3 playback, inbuilt 802.11b connectivity, and the games part of it is basically a Playstation 1.5 (more powerful than the original, but not as powerful as the PS2. there's be little point, given that it has quite a small screen)
Has anyone else seen the trailer to this thing?
I have, and the overall motion of the scenes and the characters seemed FAR less realistic than Final Fantasy's (or even Final Flight of the Osiris').
And it showed a brief part of a Cloud vs Sephiroth fight. Two things:
1. It's lame.
2. Sephiroth's sword appears to have been shortened considerably.
Bleh.

One thing I wish to know.
Why the hell are Cloud and Sephy evenly matched?
Didn't the game make a big deal about how powerful sephy was?
(Havn't played ff7 in AGES, so i may be wrong on this one)

Well, maybe it's because having a movie where the main character starts weak and fucking LEVELS UP IS MIND-NUMBINGLY STUPID!!!Darksider wrote:One thing I wish to know.

Like I've said elsewhere...we don't even know if that's Sephiroth. He bears almost no resembalance to him.Shinova wrote:Has anyone else seen the trailer to this thing?

And the sword wasn't shortened. It's a completely different sword. It's got two separate blades coming out of the hilt.

I'm pretty sure it is Sephiroth, because it shows the same person standing amoung flames, and that scene bears a strong resemblence to Nibilheim(Sp?). If they did tone down Sephiroth's strength, I'm gonna be unhappy, because he was the only mildly good character in the whole game.Shadowhawk wrote:Like I've said elsewhere...we don't even know if that's Sephiroth. Having seen the whole trailer, I can honestly say that the silver-haired guy is not Sephiroth. But he does bear an uncanny resemblance. So far, most speculation is that he is a possible son or even clone of Sephy.
He seems to be working for(or just helping) a wheelchain-bound guy covered in dark robes.

In the pictures in GameInformer, there are pics from the scene with Sepiroth in the flames, but there is also a picture of a guy with spiky white hair...

Yes, we all know the guy standing in the flames is Sephiroth--that's blatantly obvious. One Winged Angel wrote:I'm pretty sure it is Sephiroth, because it shows the same person standing amoung flames, and that scene bears a strong resemblence to Nibilheim(Sp?). We're talking about the man with short silver hair and a dual-bladed sword that's fighting Cloud in the ruins of Midgar in the trailer. He's not Sephiroth in any form we know.
