Post by Sarevok »

The Matrix:Reloaded was without doubt the most overrated movie of all times.

What do you think was the most overrated movie ?
I have to tell you something everything I wrote above is a lie.

Waterworld. What a wet blanket that film turned out to be, especially after so much money went into making it.

I would have to say The Matrix. It was an ok movie but it was hyped up so much that I was very disappointed when I finally saw it.

That and Sixth Sense, the 'amaziung surprise twist' which was completely predicatable.

Citizen Kane - widely acknowledged by the cinematic elite as the greatest film ever. Call me a philistine, but I thought it was a dull and boring piece of shit.

A movie cannot be overrated if everyone hates it, which is certainly the case with Waterworld.

I don't know what the most overrated movie of all time is, but the most overrated recent movie is Kill Bill. The most underrated of all time is definitly Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure.

Titanic and Waterworld. They were at least as hyped up as The Matrix and soforth, but they were actually crap (barring the ragdoll people falling down the ship when it broke in half, and the somewhat humourous dennis hopper character).

Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. Critics hailed it as one of the best foreign films ever. I sat through it staring in disbelief as I saw a Kung Fu movie ruined before my very eyes. UGH.

I will have to disagree. I agree that Jack and Rose deserved to probably have died early in the movie. Like Rose jumps at the beginning and Jack grabs onto her but her momentum throws both of them into the prop wash and they get mashed up. Would've been bloody good :-)

BUT, you strip away the Jack and Rose story and maybe just have it as a "survivor's" narration and I thought the movie Titanic was QUITE enjoyable. I really loved watching the beginning of the movie and the background and secondary characters. It was like a pretty thorough attempt to historically recreate the Titanic like the book "A Night to Remember."

2001, Citizen Kane, and CT,HD have been mentioned here, because, repectively, they were: Boring, boring, and had bad kung fu.

"Reservoir Dogs". The opening scene in the diner where they discussed the ethics of tipping was about the only good part until the ear slicing scene near the end. Everything else was horribly boring.

I don't think Reloaded was overrated. Few people put it any higher than the level of a really good action movie. It was overhyped as all get out but that's the nature of such sequels.

I agree with you totally. It's way, way overrated. Most Quentin Tarintino movies are horribly overrated. If he didn't go for the schocking violence I doubt any one would have paid them much attention.

Really good action movie? Even just on that level it's overrated. It still gets my #1 slot for most overrated--I was hoping for plot, and got action (and mostly boring action) instead. Boo.

Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.

It was hyped to hell and back and turned out to be the dissapointment of a lifetime.

There wasn't anything confusing about it to me; it was just dreadfully dull and quite a let-down.

Unless I'm mistaken, there's a difference between overrated and overhyped. Not many people like TPM or Reloaded. Only devoted fans praise them.

True, many movies are overhyped.

I view Overrated as some movie, many people love and praise to no end as if it's the greatest piece that genre has ever done...but when viewed or read it's at best mediocre.

For me...some overrated pieces are Titanic(sorry the movie is regarded as some fantastic love story...ugh) and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon(shyeah greatest foriegn film  )

i personally don't find crouching tiger, nor titanic at all re-watchable.

And i wasn't particularly impressed by them on first viewing either.

re-watchability is usually the sign of a good movie
