I mean, we know the points of Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, etc., but what is the idea behind Satanism? I mean, what's the appeal to it, outside of the "rebelling" factor?
So far, all I know about Satanism is that they fuck like rabbits at some of their meetings/ceremonies and the real weirdos kill animals.
Kind of redundant, as I don't see why someone would have to believe in Satan or worship Satan or whatever to want to go play musical sex.

Hmmm following the link XaLEv provided I found this;
FAQ wrote:Statement: "I really want to join the Church of Satan... I mean, A LOT! I want to be a Priest and be one of you. I want magical powers and a direct phone-line to Satan."
Response: "Go away."
And then under the the Eleven Stanic Rules;
Eleven Rules wrote:7. Acknowledge the power of magic if you have employed it successfully to attain your desires. If you deny the power of magic after having called upon it with success, you will lose all you have obtained.
Contradiction, I guess there is proof that the Church of Satan was founded by some disatisfied Christian...

Wow, that went right over your head.
The point of it is that the "I want to be a Priest and be one of you. I want magical powers and a direct phone-line to Satan." person is basing his views on Satanism on stereotypes and is just looking for something to call himself, preferably something that is 'rebellious'. That is not the kind of person that makes a good Satanist. He's looking for something to conform to, not a way to be himself. The FAQ is not saying that they do not use magic. There is no contradiction.
Perhaps you are correct XaLEv and the whole thing did go over my head. However the total disdain associated with the reply; Go away does tend to be more of a reference to the Magic and telephone line to Satan part of the FAQ.

The point being that Lucifer's rebellion resulted in human free will. Without whom we would all be mindless sheep. It's basicly rebelling against the hebrew god, for the injustivres, and perscieving that we are inperfect and will do what we want anyways. Or at least that's how my Crowley fanatic roomate from College explained it.

Eleven rules wrote:Acknowledge the power of magic if you have employed it successfully to attain your desires.
So if I have used magic successfully to attain my desires then I should acknowledge the 'fact' that it was magic that did it.
Eleven rules wrote:If you deny the power of magic after having called upon it with success, you will lose all you have obtained.
And if I have used magic successfully to attain my desires, but did not acknowledge that it was magic that did it, then I will loose whatever it was that magic gave me...
Tell me, how can I know that i have 'employed it successfully' if I don't acknowledge it?
That is not a contradiction that is plain stupid.

There is an official church of Satanism, but one could argue that true Satanism is properly defined by those who first dreamed up Satan. Therefore, true Satanism would be worship of Satan as defined in the Bible.
That's not too hard to imagine; Satan is a much nicer guy than God in the Bible (certainly from the perspective of body-counts; no confirmed kills for Satan versus billions for God). He also gave us knowledge of Good and Evil, and he rebelled against God's fascist dictatorship in "Heaven".

Which denomination of satanism where you in?
Because none of the satanists I've met or the web sites that I have visited has ever been close to:

I'd say that would be more like New Age or pop-Wicca.
It seems like confusionism, a religion that gives you a basic set of tenants to follow. If you wnat, you can follow the spiritual side (In confusionism, its honoring your ancesters) or you can just ignore it. I think.

The word Satan was chosen, not because of any spiritual significance, but because it is anathema to the Christian religion. This was done because their egoist value system was pretty much the opposite of altruistic value system of christianity. I believe the origins of the word Satan is found in Hebrew, based on an Egyptian god they came to know when they were enslaved. As I understand it the word in Hebrew is translated into 'opposer', which is why it was selected.
As you might have already guessed, the CoS does not recognize Satan as an actual entity, a force of nature. Satanists relish in the selfish nature of humanity and indulge in life's pleasures without guilt...hedonists.
You might describe them as Darwinists, Secular Humanists, Egoists. Throughout the years, especially in the 60's, they were quite the noteworthy group. They had members such as Sammy Davis Jr., Jane Mansfield, and more recently Marilyn Manson (who seems to have deserted them).
Unfortuantely as of late their leadership took a dive when their founder Anto LeVay died. His daughter and wife are currently struggling for the leadership of the sect, but it seems likely that the wife will win. But his wife has been deeply deluded by pseudo-science, esp and such crap. It is quite probably that she will pull the church deep into quackery and ruin any hope for the future that it may have.

It is inherently "altruist" to insist that everyone must worship the Christian God and donate money to the Christian church or they'll go to Hell? Interesting definition of altruism you've got there.
It is actually Judeo-Christianity which is ultimately selfish; its entire value system is based around a self-centred God's need for worship, and its personal values are entirely based around the desire to achieve eternal pleasure and joy for oneself in Heaven. It is not based on any kind of altruistic concern for the overall welfare of humanity at large, unlike humanism.
