Plucked from danger, dropped in jail

Post by jegs2 »

From this story:
WINFIELD, West Virginia (AP) -- A woman whose rescue from her flooded car was broadcast on CNN and The Weather Channel was later arrested when a deputy who saw the TV footage realized her driver's license had been revoked.

That is intensely bizarre. You get saved from immediate danger and afterwards get thrown into jail. Weird. :?

I find this very amusing.

Well... first off, the lady in question ignored the line of police and fire-fighters waving her down, trying to keep her from driving into the water in the first place. Her exact quote: "I thought they were just waving at me."

Second, they've not confirmed it, but the common wisdom is that the woman was drunk. That's why her license was revoked in the first place, too many DUI convictions.

Finally, she's being thrown in jail because this is the second time she's been caught driving without a license, as well as being up on charges of forging checks.

So.. my thoughts? She was drunk, she saw the line of police and firemen, thought they were going to nail her driving without a license, and was trying to avoid getting caught. Since she was drunk, she didn't realize the water was there until she was in it, but was too afraid of the police to turn back. Stupid is as stupid does. Throw her in jail and get her off our streets.

Me: Nope, that's why I have you around to tell me.
Nitram: You -are- beautiful. Anyone tries to tell you otherwise kill them.

 That quote is priceless.

You're right of course. What I meant by bizarre is the way the OP broke the story. It just seems weird to be rescued from danger, then immediately face another danger altogether. However, being drunk at the time and being behind the wheel aren't two things that should be combined.
