some renderings

Post by Antares »

hi all,

here are some renderings i made with blender, an open source 3D tool. perhaps some of u know it :)

basicly they are inspired by computer games and films (like alien and B5)

http://www.silentthunder.de/pics/dssmartgun.jpg
this one uses textures from avp2 and the model is from tribes2. one of my first renderings ever.

some other tribes 2 stuff

http://www.silentthunder.de/pics/air.jpg
inspired by B5 thunderbolt. it doesnt look very good, but its also very old.

http://www.silentthunder.de/pics/cruiserlarge.jpg
this was completly done without relying on other sources (except a generic texture). inspired by battletech jumpships and the auriga from alien. the front contains a folded solar sail.

the texture are all from avp2. i remodeled the models after the textures.
the last one is one of my currently best.

guess what? a VTOL ^^. i know ...i its much too bulky and it could never fly :(

http://www.silentthunder.de/pics/asteroids.jpg
those are some models of a race invented by me (inspired by xenomorphs ^^). i will write some stuff abotu them in another thread. the models are very basic, cause i used them for a 4 min rendered video:
http://www.silentthunder.de/files/phase3.avi
(divx 5.05; 45 mb)

the avi was an intro for a LAN party in germany.
this is the logo for it:

thx 4 having a look :)

so what do u think?

Cool stuff, makes me want to learn how to model things in lightwave.

I'd suggest exchanging the blue cockpits for transparent ones though.

Lots of impressive stuff, particularly considering the fact that you are using Blender, a free open source 3D program that changes constantly as it's updated. The early stuff with the models from tribes 2 and other games looked exactly that, like screenshots from games. By far the most impressive of the bunch is the last Alien pic, with the eggs on the hill and the Xenos all around. Nice atmosphere in that one. Your own Xenomorph designs look quite nice as well, like a mixture of Species 8472 and our old friends from Aliens. They have their own character, but look like they'd turn on you in a moment if you pissed them off, which I like in an alien species. I have to agree with the bit about the cockpits though, try and avoid mirrored or coloured glass and make it at least semi-transparent with a basic cockpit interior behind it. It looks much more realistic and it doesn't take a lot of work, all you need are the very basic untextured shapes of seats and controls to sell the idea of a real ship behind the glass.
