Need help getting a game started

Post by Darksider »

I'm trying to install X-wing vs. Tie fighter on my computer, but it won't work.

I think it's because i'm using XP.

Anyone know a way to get it up and running?

(I still have my old computer that runs on WIN98, so if I can'y get it to work on this one, I can just hook that one up for a while.)

XvT is too old for XP, it won't work. Thank M$, and thier tendency, to make incompatibilties. Other old W95 games won't work too. Seems you have to use W98.

There is Win9x emulation in XP. People have gotten games older than XvT working on XP systems, you know.

A forum search on old games in XP might help.

Yeah, try XP's compatibility mode

Blame LucasArts and their coding. There's no actual reason why their older XvT-engine games can't run except for certain routines that improperly check for DirectX and a few other things.
