I need a course to help me in debating Star Wars
I need to fight off idiots from Game FAQs read their dumb thread here
http://cgi.gamefaqs.com/boards/genmessa ... 154&page=0
after about 3 pages, if your brain has not popped, please teach me how to regally kick their asses SD.net style. My post is already there talking about Turbolaser yields and I have a coupla questions:
1) The 200 GT Turbolaser yield, I know it came from ICS, but does that mean 200GT per second or what?
2) In ROTJ, the SSD's shields or something was destroyed by and A?Wing, or something? How is that possible? If you read the first few pages of that thread, you'll understand why I'm asking this question.
I'll ask more questions later when they come to me. I'm trying to move away from being a Trekkie, but that's hard work.
Oh, I'm a Weberite now.

1) That is 200 GT is per shot per gun.
2) The SSD's shields were not brought down by the fighters. In a scene shortly before the destruction of the sensor domes, Admiral Ackbar orders to concentrate all firepower on the Executor. The destruction of the sensor domes (which is what those two things on the bridge tower are) illustrate what is said moments later: the bridge deflector shields are down. One A-Wing crashes into the bridge, causing the Executor to crash into the DS II, before the secondary bridge can regain control over the ship.
Hope that helps.[/quote]

The ICS states 200 gigatons is the yield of a single shot from the Accamalators heavy guns. Since the Accamalators main guns are identical to medium turbolasers some believe that the much larger heavy turbolaser found on Star Destroyers are even more powerful.1) The 200 GT Turbolaser yield, I know it came from ICS, but does that mean 200GT per second or what?
The Executor was not destroyed by a A-Wing. Admiral Ackbar ordered the Rebel fleet to concentrate fire on the Executor. After aborbing the combined firepower of entire fleet for several minutes the Executors shields failed.2) In ROTJ, the SSD's shields or something was destroyed by and A?Wing, or something? How is that possible? If you read the first few pages of that thread, you'll understand why I'm asking this question.
You can hear one of the bridge officers saying that the forward deflector shield failing and Piett saying "Intentsify forward firepower" when the A-Wing slammed into the bridge.
The Domes on Star Destroyers are not shield generators they are long range sensor domes. t
I have to tell you something everything I wrote above is a lie.

Anyone who thinks 10 meter fighter crafts can take down a 17km long ship is an idiot. No one would build ships that large if such a small craft can easily destroy it.dacis2 wrote:2) In ROTJ, the SSD's shields or something was destroyed by and A?Wing, or something? Also to add to the sensor domes, remind them that they would have had to penetrate the shields first to get to them in the first place but according to the screen, the shields were already down before the A-wing's missles went unharm.

I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."

They are the only fools I rate below many the nuts on TF.N....but barely.
Dude...they have such inane and diverse idiotic ideas might as well be screaming at a 10 year old about the Laws of Conservation, Momentum and Thermodynamics and hear the retort "That's not what my mommy said!!!!"
BTW, have they even once in the last 15~20 ST v SW debates even provided a SHRED of proof?
And I mean beyond this bullshit that they used to pull about TDiC being the end all and they get to determine canon.

FYI, the dome example on the SSD can not be stated concretely to be either sensors or shields. The only good thing is that the shields must either be down or severly taxed because you can't strike at targets under the shield else wise. Therefor the SSD dome example with ultimately irrelevent and is just a red herring attempt by your opponent.

It makes me want to cry...Lemme put it this way.
If I can take out a Star Destroyer and its full complement of TIE Fighters with one YT-2000 on my own, then I don't see why Amuro can't do it in the Nu Gundam.

Keep at it. Back when I didn't know the rules of canon I argued SW game information. People can and do learn.Captain_Cyran wrote:It makes me want to cry...Lemme put it this way.

I'm on to the thread there and damn their line of thinking is redicolous. They have simplistic view of it. They'll just say things such as "a gundam can manuever easier" as if "easier" has any meaning. Oy. ~JasonAlyeska wrote:Keep at it. Re: I need a course to help me in debating Star Wars
Interestingly, I was playing Rogue Squadron 3 on Co-Op last week with a guy who probably has next to no Star Wars knowledge. We played the mission where we have to take out a Star Destroyer by first taking out its shields (RS3 coop is basically 2 player Rogue Squadron 2). Anyway, the mission clearly tells us to take out the shields on the top of the bridge tower and I repeated it so we could succeed in the mission. He understood the primary target. In the heat of battle, you know what the guy called them? "I'm going for the sensors."Lord of the Farce wrote:[Anon. Stormie] Look, sir: shield generator domes [Anon. Stormie]

If the guy knows anything about real (war)ships, a slip like that isn't surprising.Mad wrote:In the heat of battle, you know what the guy called them? "I'm going for the sensors."

Well, if they're really stupid, you should explain them as you would a child.
I think a good way would be:
"Look kid, in the dome scene you're implying:
Step 1) Somebody destroys a dome
Step 2) Shield goes down thanks to dome
When what must have happened was:
Step 1) Shields go down
Step 2) Somebody destroys a dome, thanks to no shields
Because you know, shields are supposed to prevent things from being destroyed."
Maybe you should use lots of examples and colourful metaphors.

I am not even sure if I want to go back there and just let them "think" they won but for being stupid. Most of them are thinking in simple concepts; very annoying.~Jason

All I see in that thread is a bunch of name game and no-numbers fallacies. I don't recall ONCE the gundam fans saying how powerful Nu's weapons were.
