What time period are you talking about? Also, different fleets within the Imperial Navy have different flags.

What the hell are you talking about? What do you think "flagship" means?

I think he means what class of vessel would represent the entire Imperial Navy...

This isn't the United Federation of Planets' Starfleet.

The Galactic Empire's proud Starfleet and Navy uses the correct terminology for "flagship."

A "flagship" is a vessel where a "flag" is raised by a flag officer, ie., an admiral. A ship is commanded by her captain (including a flagship). The fleet is commanded by the admiral. The flag officer may raise his or her flag on any ship of their choosing, which ipso facto becomes the flagship.

HADM Firmus Piett's flagship at the battle above the Sanctuary Moon of Endor was HIMS Executor. His fleet, the ad hoc Sector Group above the Death Star II.

GADM Thrawn's flagship during his campiagns was invariably HIMS Chimaera.

The Empire quite obviously had MANY flagships while they were in power, and those ranged in class from ISD analogues to gargantuan battleships and cruisers like the Executor to the DSII.

.
If I may ask, what is the evidence for an ad hoc Sector Group?

I believe it all depends on the time period. There is no one flagship but many flagships that represent the different high ranking officials. The Death Star would be mabye the flagship, and then the empire would use what ever is the biggest ship and most powerful as the flagship of its best officers. There is no one flagship of the Empire. But would whatever ship the Emperor traveled on be considered the flagship, kinda like how whatever aircraft the US President uses is Air Force One, Marine One, and all that?

No, you idiot, there is no "one" flagship. Stop with the trek brainwashing and listen.

Star Wars uses the term flagship in proper context: the ship carrying an officer of flag rank (ie Commodore or above). So there are a number of vessels that could be considered flagships.

Because it was a deployment of 24 SD ships. Ergo, that is a an ad hoc Sector Group deployment because it can't Endor's sector's Sector Group due to the Executor and the comm. ship. This would also be why Piett should be a High Admiral.

Are you trying to ask what the largest and most powerful Imperial vessel is? It's the DSII. Aside from that, it seems to be the Eclipse, and beneath that there are several starships that bridge the gap between destroyers and the Eclipse, most notably the Executor and its sisters.

And almost every ship had a throne on it, in case the Emperor decided to personally use it.

Even the frigates and other such relatively lowly ships, or do you just mean the destroyer fleet and upwards.

BTW, there was really no reason to make this a poll, Dax.

I think the Lord Jax refers to the Star Wars equivalent of the Enterprise.

Frankly (and this has been said before), there is none. The Empire doesn't use that designation. The most prestigious posts seem to have been the Executor and the Eclipse, with a handful of other assignments also being looked favorably upon, but the Empire doesn't really have a USS Enterprise.

Lord Jax: what would you consider to be the modern US' flagship? Maybe that would help the rest of us understand your question.

That would be explained by the presence of Death Squadron, and the comm ship being the command ship of the Sector Group.

If you're asking about showcase ships, like how the HMS Hood was the flagship of Britain, then the flagship of the Empire would be the ISD.
