file compression

i have no idea if this is at all possible.

but can a person chop up a file somehow to break it into smaller fragments and then somehow put it back togeather as the original file.

you see i have a file that is about 2mbs and i need it smaller to transport it to another computer , and this file will not Zip down to size to fit onto a disk

and no there is no cd-burner on this computer , and unfortuntally the computer the file needs to go on dose not currentally have intrenet access

there are some file splitters about. one of the better ones that i've used is ZSplit, which is an extremely small download. if your computer has USB ports you can also buy a USB memory key for around $30.00 to hold a good amount of data and transfer very large files. they come in sizes anywhere from 16megs to 512 megs, depending on the brand and model. though the price per size does vary.

IIRC, ZIP is supposed to support file spanning on multiple disks, and I know RAR does.

You can always user WinRAR and use "no compression" to save time.

Zip is kinda annoying, you have to put the diskettes and then compress to them, and the computer switches to the next diskette when it's full, you can't simply copy them together and uncompress them (like RAR or ARJ), and they have all the same name but different volume labels.
