Howto tweak Mozilla/Firebird/Firefox

Post by Faram »

Okay just thought I'll write a quick howto optimize your Mozilla/Firebird/Firefox browser

All info here is collected from misc websites and stuff, I have tested it on Firebird 0.7 and Firefox 0.8 No issues so far.

The mozilla brand of browsers is great as they are but there is some tweaking to do,and this info is mostly for allways on connections like Adsl,Vdsl,Cable and LAN

Don't think you will noteice any difference on slower connections sorry.

1. Get the new release of Mozilla/Firefox www.mozilla.org
2. Type "about:config" in the adress field.
3. Set the value of network.http.pipelining to "true".
4. Set the value of network.http.pipelining.maxrequests to "100".
5. Set the value of network.http.proxy.pipelining to "true"
6. Set the value of nglayout.initialpaint.delay to "0"

If you regret a setting there is a default button for eatch setting so no worries :)

Try it out! And post your tweaks here :)

I was wondering if you could help me: with the latest Mozilla my Bookmarks never work! They are all listed, but if I click on them nothing happens!

Obviously, this makes surfing a problem!

Can anyone suggest a solution?

Oh, also website addresses are no longer displayed in the address bar. I have no idea why this is, any clues?

Did you delete your old Firebird directory and disable all extensions before updating?

Mozilla saves bookmarks in a simple html file. You could just open that file in your browser and use them like normal links in an emergency.

I don't use Firebird, however the instalation package automatically removes all the old extensions, so yeah.

Also, I have tried reinstalling the package several times, to no avail.

*BUMP*

So, how do I make it so that I don't accidentally close all my 200 browser tabs by hitting the wrong close button? Mozilla had a checkbox for that, and I haven't found the equivalent here.
